Hermes Trismegistus - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Hermes Trismegistus is said to be an incarnation of Jesus.
Both Thoth and Hermes were gods of writing and of magic in their respective cultures.
This repetition of given name and surname throughout the generations may at least partially account for the legend of his longevity, especially as it is believed that many of his children pursued careers as priests in the religion he started.

Hermeticism - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Hermes Trismegistus is accredited with the name Trismegistus, meaning the "Thrice Great" or "Thrice Greatest" because, as he claims in The Emerald Tablet of Hermes Trismegistus, he knows the three parts of the wisdom of the whole universe.
Whatever the impact of the beliefs, they stem from teachings and books accredited to Hermes Trismegistus, who is put forth as a wise sage and Egyptian priest, commonly seen as synonymous with the Egyptian god Thoth.
The first book involves a discussion between Poimandres (also known as Nous and God) and Hermes, supposedly resulting from a meditative state, and is the first time that Hermes is in contact with God.

Hermograph Press: The Ancient God Mercury/Hermes
Hermes is the son of Zeus and Maia, goddess of clouds and one of the Pleiades, the seven daughters of Atlas.
Hermes served as messenger for Zeus (though sometimes he job-shares with Iris, the goddess of the dawn) and as sometime conductor of souls of the dead to Hades.
As such he was the origin of the deity Hermes Trismegistus, or "Thrice-great Hermes." The three part title comes from this version of Hermes being the Greek writer of astrological texts and responsible for occult arts including alchemy, and the Egyptian god who invented hieroglyphics and calendar-keeping and also judged the souls of the deceased.

And in still another sense, this claim of Hermes to possession of the three parts of the knowledge of the whole world is analogous to the sayings of Jesus which have led to the Christian concept of the Holy Trinity of Father, Son and Holy Ghost.
As to the concept that Hermes was an Atlantean avatar, we are not concerned.
Hermes still lives, not alone through his works, but in that resurrected body, in the life everlasting, in which, with the communion of saints, or those who have conquered mortality, we all believe.

 The Development of Hermes Trismegistus
The technical Hermetica are studiously vague, usually envisaging Trismegistus as a sage who lived at a remote period and conversed freely with the gods, though on occasion they speak of him as a divine being.
In other words, the story that was produced-and widely circulated-to explain the emergence of Hermes Trismegistus invoked a relatively human Hermes who was recognized to be distinct from the messenger of the gods.
It is in the Greek magical papyri, rather than in the Hermetica, that we most clearly discern the lineaments of Hermes Trismegistus, and that the Egyptian aspects of his identity are given the fullest rein.[89] In a country as renowned for its magic as was Egypt, that was only to be expected.

 Alchemy Journal Vol.3 No.4
Hermes may have also derived his moniker "Thrice Great" from the tablet, its twelfth entry stating: "Therefore am I called Hermes Trismegistus, possessing the three parts of the philosophy of the whole world." It is difficult to identity the "three parts of the philosophy of the whole world".
Hermes Trismegistus was a figure of new age spiritualism, one to ignore and consider a myth like so many other ancient gods.
Anecdotal evidence suggests that Hermes was a man elevated to deity status and even if Hermes Trismegistus did not write the texts attributed to him, it is likely that a priest of the Egyptian god Thoth did.

Hermes Trismegistus and the Hermetic Writings - Hermes Trismegistus
In almost all of Hermeticism, Hermes is presented as a teacher figure; even as a god, he is not a "normal" Hellenistic god.
Many of the Hermetic writings take the form of dialogues, sometimes between Hermes and one of his disciples, sometimes between a divine figure of some sort and a human who has wisdom revealed to him, and sometimes between a seeming "master" and "initiate", who call each other "my father" and "my son" (Mahé, 290).
Where a traditional Hellenistic god would be concerned with such things as ruling over his sphere of influence and enforcing proper worship and invocation of himself, Hermes Trismegistus is almost always presented as a teacher or an example.

To accommodate Edgar Cayce’s visions and past life recollections, Gilbert is of the opinion that Osiris, Isis, Set, and Ra are not Gods, but men and women whose renown was such that they acquired the status of Gods, and that these ‘Gods’ did live much longer than we do today, for hundreds of years even.
