Philosophy - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Medieval philosophy was concerned primarily with argument from authority, and the analysis of ancient texts using Aristotelian logic.
Philosophy is thus not a unified whole but is a set of unrelated problems.
The Penguin Encyclopedia says that philosophy differs from science in that philosophy's questions cannot be answered empirically, and from religion in that philosophy allows no place for faith or revelation, although these points may be called into question by certain philosophers.

The beliefs of Pythagoras and Parmenides formed the basis of the idealism that was to characterize later Greek philosophy.
The Pythagorean school also laid great stress on the importance of the soul, regarding the body only as the soul's “tomb.” According to Parmenides, the leader of the Eleatic school, the appearance of movement and the existence of separate objects in the world are mere illusions; they only seem to exist.
In contrast were the ideas of Socrates, with whom Greek philosophy attained its highest level.

 PSYCHOLOGY IN GREEK PHILOSOPHY
Philosophy took a humanistic turn as people began to scrutinize human nature for laws to guide their actions, rather than looking to custom or the gods for an objective notion of the "right." Several competing schools, each tracing its ancestry to some aspect of Socrates, Plato, or Aristotle's teachings, competed for the people's allegiance.
This came to be called the "Cyrenaic" school, and it is the most explicitly hedonistic philosophy found in the Greek tradition.

Aristotle explains that, although he affirmed that one thing exists, Parmenides still formulated theories to account for the observed facts:
