Gnosis - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Thomasine Church has reinterpreted Gnosticism and the thomasine gospels from an Illuminist viewpoint.
Gnosis is the name of magazine [1] published between 1985 and 1999 in California as a "Journal of the Western Inner Traditions" covering traditions of spirituality and mysticism.
The Thomasine Church teaches that gnosis is first and foremost a matter of self acquaintance and the goal of enlightenment.

 Gnosis/Gnosticism
Gnosis (small "g," silent) is a generic term with Greek origins meaning intuitive knowledge of spiritual mysteries, or more simply "to know." It's an internal spiritual certainty grounded in personal experience rather than faith.
Humans, say Gnosis, are born ignorant of the divine spark of the true God residing in them.
Far from the common belief that the world and mankind was created by a good and kind God, Gnosis contends that the world and everything in it was created by a blundering God at best, a downright evil one at worst.

Death releases the divine spark from its lowly prison, but if there has not been a substantial work of Gnosis undertaken by the soul prior to death, it becomes likely that the divine spark will be hurled back into, and then re-embodied within, the pangs and slavery of the physical world.

Review: From NEW AGE to NEW GNOSIS
The New Gnosis is a theo-political critique of the ruling secular and cultural gods of our era, and of the social-economic cultures and scientific cults that support them.
This took the form of a spiritual critique of the ruling gods of the era — the gods of both Old and New Testament ‘orthodoxy’, of Greek paganism and Roman imperialism.
In this and subsequent sections to P.116, the author develops the integral tenet in Sethian Gnosis; that is, there is a hidden knowledge behind the word, a spiritual tonality or dimension beyond the sound.

It is for this reason that Mani's followers revered him as the redeemer and holy teacher of humankind (Rudolph, p.
The doctrine of Mani is not 'philosophical,' in the manner of Basilides, Valentinus or Ptolemy; for Mani's teaching was not the product of a more or less rational or systematic speculation about the godhead, resulting in Gnosis, but the wholly creative product of what he felt to be a revelation from the divinity itself.

According to Basilides, it is a flaw in the last sonship; according to others it is the passion of the female Æon Sophia; according to others the sin ofthe Great Archon, or Æon-Creator, of the Universe.

Interim control of the Church was assumed by the Synod of Bishops, and at a High Synod, in 1896, they elected one of their bishops, Léonce-Eugène Fabre des Essarts, known as Tau Synesius, to succeed Doinel as patriarch.
The church was to be administered by male bishops and female "Sophias" (sometimes also called "Kephra"), who were to be elected and consecrated according to the Gnostic Rite.
