Genealogy of Jesus - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The genealogy of Jesus through his legal father Joseph is given by two passages from the Gospels, Matthew 1:1-16 and Luke 3:23-38.
The phrase "book of the genealogy" or biblos geneseos has several possible meanings; most scholars agree that the most logical explanation is that this is simply toledot, although a small minority translate it more widely as "the book of coming" and thus consider it to refer to the entire Gospel.
Thus Jesus is established as legal heir to the throne of Israel.
