The Episcopal Church approved its first openly gay bishop on Tuesday, a day after allegations of sexual misconduct threatened to derail the ordination of New Hampshire Rev. Gene Robinson.
Since the 18th Century, according to a Reuters' report, the Church has rejected only nine priests nominated for the position of bishop, the last in 1934.
The Episcopal Church is the U.S. affiliate of Britain's Anglican Church.
