Free will - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Free will is important in the Catholic Church, St.
The theological doctrine of divine foreknowledge is often alleged to be in conflict with free will.

Free Will Baptist Church - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Additionally, Free Will Baptist congregations believe the bible is the completed, inerrant word of God, have an amillennial view of eschatology and strongly believe in (voluntary) tithing, the literal interpretation of Scripture, totally abstaining from alcoholic beverages, and not working on the Sabbath.
Instead, Free Will Baptist Doctrine holds to the traditional Arminian position, based on the belief in a General Atonement, that it is possible to "dispose of one's salvation".
By the end of 18th century, these churches were commonly referred to as "Free Will Baptist", and this would later be referred to as the "Palmer" line of Free Will Baptists.

 Free Will
On a minimalist account, free will is the ability to select a course of action as a means of fulfilling some desire.
(See the entries on compatibilism; causal determinism; fatalism; arguments for incompatibilism; and divine foreknowedge and free will.) There are also a few who say the truth of any variety of determinism is irrelevant because free will is simply impossible.
Leibniz insisted that this is consistent with saying that God is able to will otherwise, although his defense of this last claim is notoriously difficult to make out satisfactorily.

One of christianity's and islam's main doctrines is the doctrine of free will.
I have also, briefly, mentioned some of my major objections, why it is impossible to believe in both free will and an omnipotent god.

 Determinism, Free Will, Freedom
The belief that "what will be will be," since all past, present, and future events have already been predetermined by God or another all-powerful force.
And since the person is the first cause of his acts, it is meaningless to ask what the cause of the first cause is. Just as no outside force caused God to create the world, so no outside force causes people to choose certain actions.
If God is truly in control of all things, then no one could act contrary to his will, which is what self determinism must hold.

Now, we shall have no such divisions; but we will endeavour to take a more calm look at the text; and not, because there happen to be the words "will," or "will not" in it, run away with the conclusion that it teaches the doctrine of free-will.
There are many that will go to hell as much bought with the blood of Christ as I was; they had as much of the Holy Ghost given to them; they had as good a chance, and were as much blessed as I am.
Another day we will preach from this text—"No man can come except the Father draw him." But it is only the will we are talking of now; and it is certain that men will not come unto Christ, that they might have life.

 A Proof of Free Will
Rationality in forming beliefs consists in the at least implicit acceptance of certain norms--norms such as that truth is to be preferred to error, that degrees of belief should be proportioned to degrees of evidence for those beliefs, that one should not contradict oneself, and so on.
but there is no doubt that the main philosophical challenge to the belief in free will has come from the thesis of universal determinism, so understood as to exclude MFT.
Note that this objection is distinct from the objection that human beings have been known periodically to mis-identify propositions as necessary or impossible through errors in reasoning.

This argument, it seems to me, is an "indirect" argument for the incompatibility of determinism and responsibility, but it's not one that goes via PAP.
There needs to be an argument for why determinism rules out the ability to do otherwise and an argument for why we should accept PAP.
One -- objections to the direct argument will not ipso facto be objections to source incompatibilism.

 free will
In the Christian tradition, which has framed the issues surrounding free will, the belief hinges on a metaphysical belief in non-physical reality.
Free will advocates, or libertarians, as they are sometimes called, believe that while everything else in the universe may be the inevitable consequence of external forces, human behavior is unique and is determined by the agent, not by God or the stars or the laws of nature.
Hence, for many, a belief in materialism is taken to imply a denial of free will.

One of their arguments can be summarized as follows.
This conviction is the deep and inexhaustible source of the free will problem: powerful arguments that seem to show that we cannot be morally responsible in the ultimate way that we suppose keep coming up against equally powerful psychological reasons why we continue to believe that we are ultimately morally responsible.
They are therefore wholly free to choose and act even if their whole physical and psychological make-up is entirely determined by things for which they are in no way ultimately responsible - starting with their genetic inheritance and early upbringing.
