 What is Folklore?
Folklore comes early and stays late in the lives of all of us.
This book is founded on the simple assumption that there must be some element all folklore has in common (else we could not lump it all together).
In spite of the combined forces of technology, science, television, religion, urbanization, and creeping literacy, we prefer our close personal associations as the basis for learning about life and transmitting important observations and expressions.

 The Protection of Expressions of Folklore: The Attempts at International Level
The definitions in some of those laws (the laws of Burundi, Cote d'lvoire, Guinea, Kenya, Rwanda and Senegal) refer to unknown authors as creators, some others (the laws of Barbados, Cameroon, Central African Republic and Sri Lanka) to communities, or groups of communities, while the Law of Congo to both unknown authors and to communities.
They noted the welcoming and keynote address by H.E. Somporn Asavahame who invited the participants to meet a challenge of creating a new international standard for the legal protection of folklore.
In the case of the majority of laws providing for the protection of folklore creations, it can be deduced from the context of the various provisions that such protection is perpetual, but the laws of some countries (Congo, Ghana and Sri Lanka) also state this explicitly.

 About the American Folklore Society: Prizes
This letter must be signed and should be between 250 and 500 words in length.
Nominations should include: a letter of nomination; a one- or two-page biography or resume of the nominee; three to five letters of support from a broad range of people, including community members who have benefited from the nominee's work and people from outside the folklore field in addition to colleagues.
A nominator must have read the book that is being nominated and write a nomination letter that describes the book, its significance for folklore studies, and its interest to a wider audience.

"Old folklore" it is not, but real folklore it is.
The most interesting bit of modern folklore from my point of view as a student of language and folklore is the sudden popularity of the term "blue moon." Names of moons at certain times of the year have been around a long time, and almanacs are especially wont to list twelve of them.
Well, if this is what the authors did, they lost out because the term immediately entered the folklore of the modern world and it has become as living a meaning of the term "blue moon" as any of the earlier ones.

The practice of Santería dates to the fifteenth century when its earliest practitioners - members of the Yoruba people of West Africa - were brought to Puerto Rico as slaves.

He may not be the biggest bunny in the world (that honor apparently belongs to a British cousin named Roberto), but at 3 feet in length from nose to tail and between 17 and 22 pounds avoirdupois, Herman the German Giant is definitely a hare-raising specimen, as his diminutive owner Hans Wagner can attest.
