Believers in Flood Geology base their belief in a global flood on the Bible and on an interpretation of geological field work that they believe gives strong evidence of a global flood as described in the Book of Genesis.
Most believers in young Earth creationism – a position held by the majority of proponents of flood geology – accept the Ussher-Lightfoot Calendar which in turn is based on the Vulgate version of the Genealogies of Genesis, believe that God created the universe approximately 6000 years ago, in the space of six days.
For the cause of the flood, Genesis states only that God deliberately caused the flood, indicating that the cause of the flood was supernatural in origin.
