First Vision - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The first recorded allusion to a first vision separate from the purported appearance of Moroni was in the "Articles and Covenants of the Church of Christ".
Because of this, Smith may have seen the First Vision, his crystallomancy abilities via the seer stone and the call to translate the Book of Mormon and establish the Church as unconnected events until the Kirtland Temple period or later.
Smith participated in recording at least four accounts of the First Vision, the first of which was recorded in 1831 or 1832 (after the Church of Christ was officially organized in 1830).

LDS teaching is, in the words of Stephen L. Richards (a former councilor in the First Presidency), "steeped in the verity of the First Vision." It undergirds the doctrine of an anthropomorphic God and theomorphic man, of the relationships of the persons of the Godhead, and of continual revelation.
The First Vision of the Prophet Joseph Smith is the beginning point, the fountainhead, of the restoration of the gospel in this dispensation.
It renews the witness of the Hebrew prophets that visions are not the least but the most reliable mortal access to the divine; that the majesty, glory, and power of God are "beyond description"; that the biblical record of face-to-face communion with God is more than a strained metaphor.

 First Vision
With all the scriptural evidence against what is stated in the First Vision, "If this First Vision was but a figment of Joseph Smith's imagination, then the Mormon Church is what its detractors declare it to be - a wicked and deliberate imposture." Mormons are worshipping a false God and another Jesus Christ.
The real problem is whether or not Joseph Smith actually had a "First Vision" or if he came up with his own "perfect religion" out of his head, as well as trying to come up with some kind of story to cover himself.
Mormon Apostle Hugh B. Brown declared: "The First Vision of the Prophet Joseph Smith constitutes the groundwork of the Church which was later organized.

 The First Vision
In answer, God Himself and the Lord Jesus Christ appeared to Smith in a vision in the early spring of 1820, telling Smith that none of the churches were right, that Christendom was in apostasy.
One problem that Mormon historians admit is that Smith never told any story about a First Vision until at least 1832, twelve years after it supposedly occurred, and then told very contradictory accounts until 1838 when he came up with what is now accepted as the official version.
In the official account, Smith notes that his mother and some siblings joined the Presbyterian church, and in accounts given later by Smith's mother and one of his brothers they remembered the names of the Methodist and Presbyterian ministers leading the joint revival effort, Reverends George Lane and Benjamin Stockton, respectively.
