Evangelism - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In common parlance, the title of evangelist is most easily associated with those who lead large meetings like those of Billy Graham, possibly in tents or existing church buildings, or those who address the public in street corner preaching, which targets listeners who happen to pass nearby on the street.
The Koine expression for good news, εὐάγγελιον ("eu-angelion") is used to refer to the four Gospels in the New Testament; and thus the Evangelists are also the authors of the four Gospels -- traditionally known as Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John.
Evangelism is the preaching of the Christian Gospel, or by extension any other form of preaching or proselytizing.

 Discovering the True Evangelist
The evangelist is a persuader, born of the conviction that a person without God is headed for eternal punishment.
Evangelists are thought to be incapable of grappling with the troubling, intellectual questions of faith in a real world.
The evangelist is also able to give a reason and defense of the faith against false and untenable claims.

What in the world is a Catholic Evangelist?
The ministry and role of the evangelist is to proclaim the Gospel, bring the people to accept their salvation through Jesus Christ, empower them by the Holy Spirit and hand them on the pastor for their ongoing nurture and instruction in the believing community where they live.
Saint Jerome said that, "Ignorance of the Bible is ignorance of Christ".
While there are evangelists in the Church and ministries involved in evangelisation, the Church cannot fail to be Church.

Young Students Learning Library: EVANGELIST@ HighBeam Research
Evangelists hope to bring about a revival (or renewal) of religious faith.
A person who travels from place to place, preaching the gospel, or the teachings of Jesus Christ, is called an evangelist.
They were the first to be called ``evangelists.'' The Greek word evangelion means ``good news,'' and these disciples were preaching the ``good news about Christ.'' The...

 New Testament Evangelist&21st Century Church
The position of the evangelist is critical to building a bridge between prophetic and pastoral ministries in the church and is a necessary link between repentance and revival.
An evangelist is a person with a divine gift and sacred calling from Christ to proclaim or announce the good news of Christ.
In Luke 20:1 and Acts 8:4, Jesus and the apostles were evangelists in preaching the gospel.9 Since the centrality of evangelism is derived biblically, theologically, practically, and logically throughout the New Testament, it can further be deduced that the term evangelist is located in the center of the five gifts in Ephesians 4:11.

 The Evangelist
The prophet was not only a foreteller, but also a “forthteller,” and the evangelist does have that spiritual attribute as one of the aspects of his preaching ministry.
I also believe that it is important that the evangelist be faithful to tithe to his home church, as well as participate in the faith promise (grace giving) missions program there.
Evangelists are Christ’s key men in His mighty evangelistic program for the world, and it is sin to ignore them.

The Task of the Evangelist (This Rock: March 2004)
Absent some conscious, grave abuse, the evangelist is innocent (as are the priests who left the dying soldiers in the fields).
By telling his priests to "leave them in the fields," the saint was telling them they had to refuel their own spiritual life with prayer lest they lose their souls.
Still, God has blessed this particular evangelist with a good memory for generalities absent of details, and it is from that memory we shall draw for this important subject.

Evangelist (International Standard Bible Encyclopedia) :: Bible Tools
At a later time, the name of "evangelist" was given the writers of the four Gospels because they tell the story of the gospel and because the effect of their promulgation at the beginning was very much like the work of the preaching evangelist.
As these are converted and united to Jesus Christ by faith, the work of the pastor and teacher begins, to instruct them further in the things of Christ and build them up in the faith.
The evangelist has no fixed place of residence, but moves about in different localities, preaching the gospel to those ignorant of it before.

 Matthew the Evangelist
According to Epiphanius, Bishop of Cyprus, Matthew the Evangelist was martyred in Hierapolis, and the Matthew who replaced Judas Iscariot among the twelve apostles is the one who died in Ethiopia.
Matthew the Evangelist (מתי "Gift of the LORD", Standard Hebrew and Tiberian Hebrew Mattay; Septuagint Greek Ματθαιος, Matthaios) is traditionally believed to be the author of the Gospel of Matthew.
Some traditions say that Matthew was martyred in Ethiopia, others say that he was martyred in Hierapolis of Parthia.

 An Evangelist
And Ephesians recognizes that an Evangelist is one of the servants of the church that is a gift from Jesus.
An evangelist preaches the gospel, correcting doctrine and practice compared with scripture, preparing the leadership of the church for service.
He was selected to be one of the seven, like Stephen, who took care of the details of the church so the Apostles could dedicate their time to teaching and prayer.

CATHOLIC ENCYCLOPEDIA: St. John the Evangelist
The Christian writers of the second and third centuries testify to us as a tradition universally recognized and doubted by no one that the Apostle and Evangelist John lived in Asia Minor in the last decades of the first century and from Ephesus had guided the Churches of that province.
After Christ's Ascension and the Descent of the Holy Spirit, John took, together with Peter, a prominent part in the founding and guidance of the Church.
When later Christ appeared at the Lake of Genesareth John was also the first of the seven disciples present who recognized his Master standing on the shore (John, xxi, 7).

An Evangelist for our Pastor? Never!
After serving as an evangelist for 19 years, I sensed God was leading me to the pastorate.
It was said about me, “He only has three sermons, and I have all three on tape.” As an evangelist, I had some tried-and-true messages, but I had more time to seek God for fresh revelation than I have ever had as a pastor.
The evangelist who does not get along with pastors has few return meetings.

MarketingProfs - "HOT" 48 hours—What can we learn from Tele - Evangelist?
An evangelist to me is an individual that carries a passion for a cause such that he/she that transcends "bearing witness" and instead works with energy to convert all he/she encounters to his/her chosen cause.
The difference between them and the "TV Evangelist" as I see it is that they don't try to force their message down your throat - they explain it, but leave it up to the audience to accept, reject, argue.
What other companies do you think have strong Evangelist who are passionate about their cause...Go for it Pepper drop the wisdom.

 St John Evangelist
The latter applied to him by the Saviour, as the son of Thunder, because he was rebuked for asking Christ to send down "fire from Heaven to punish the citizens of Samaria that refused to admit him because he was going to Jerusalem" (Luke 9.58-56).
Unlike the other eleven apostles, all of whom were martyred in the name of Jesus Christ, John lived to the ripe age of 105, escaping the fate of his brother evangelists.
With his promise to Jesus for his Mother's care fulfilled, St. John now turned his full attention to carrying the message of Jesus Christ to the spiritually darkened areas of the then known world, preaching throughout Asia Minor with a passion that won converts who formed a solid base for the New Faith.

 CATHOLIC ENCYCLOPEDIA: Saint Mark
In the preface to his Gospel in manuscripts of the Vulgate, Mark is represented as having been a Jewish priest: "Mark the Evangelist, who exercised the priestly office in Israel, a Levite by race".
There is abundance of time between A.D. 50 and 60, a period during which the New Testament is silent in regard to St. Mark, for his activity in Egypt.
Thus, we find Mark in Rome with St. Peter at a time when he was widely known to the Churches of Asia Minor.

 St. Luke
It is only in the Gospel of St. Luke that we have a full account of several particulate relating to the Annunciation of the mystery of the Incarnation to the Blessed Virgin, her visit to St. Elizabeth, the parable of the prodigal son, and many other most remarkable points.
The apostle remained there two years in chains; but was permitted to live in a house which he hired, though under the custody of a constant guard; and there he preached to those who daily resorted to hear him.
Nicephorus says he died at Thebes in Boeotia, and that his tomb was shown near that place in his time; but seems to confound the evangelist with St. Luke Stiriote, a hermit of that country.

 St John The Evangelist
St John The Evangelist, who is styled in the gospel, The beloved disciple of Christ," and is called by the Greeks "The Divine," was a Galilean, the son of Zebedee and Salome, and younger brother of St. James the Great, with whom he was brought up to the trade of fishing.
From his acquaintance with the high priest Caiphas, St. Jerome infers that he was a gentleman by birth; but the meanness of his father's trade, and the privacy of his fortune sufficiently prove that his birth could not much distinguish him in the world, neither could his education give him any tincture of secular learning.
Chrysostom and other fathers mention that the evangelist prepared himself for this divine undertaking by retirement, prayer, and contemplation.

 CIN - JOHN THE EVANGELIST
It is as well to remember, of course, that at least fifty years-half a century of prayer and meditation, of teaching and debate-separate St John the Apostle from St John the Evangelist.
In short, we are still in the same position as those priests who interrogated St John after Pentecost (Acts 4:13) and who, 'discovering that Peter and John were simple men, without learning, were astonished.' Astonishment: that is what everyone must feel who comes to close quarters with St John.
As a very young man he had listened to John the Baptist, and when the Baptist pointed to Jesus and said 'Behold the Lamb of God' he had transferred his allegiance to our Lord.

As an evangelist Hill's preaching and prayers are geared towards the salvation of the lost, the backsliders and the prodigals.

Since Sunday 18th June, 1995 hundreds of thousands of lives have been changed as a direct result of the Pensacola Revival in Florida, USA.

 CATHOLIC ENCYCLOPEDIA: Evangelist
Accordingly, St. Paul, in his list of the gifts bestowed by Christ for the edification of the Church, Eph., iv, 11 (in I Cor., xii, 28, they are omitted), mentions the evangelists in the third place, only after the Apostles and the Prophets.
Paul and Barnabas (Acts, xiii, 1-3), to go about and preach the Gospel, yet sometimes with a settled place of abode, as Philip at Cæsarea, and Timothy at Ephesus.
The system which finally prevailed in the Latin Church, consisted in symbolizing St. Matthew by a man, St. Mark by a lion, St. Luke by an ox, and St. John by an eagle (see S

Q&A: An interview with evangelist Keith Fordham - (BP)
Fordham: I could give a dozen reasons for using evangelists in the local church, but Ephesians 4:11 specifically implies that every church should use an evangelist to aid in the church's maturing process.
Faithful pastors can preach the Word of God for months and Sunday School teachers expound the Word week after week with little visible results, but evangelists can often come in and draw the net and people respond.
I would like to help churches understand something of the financial needs of the only non-salaried fulltime men in the SBC.

 Matthew, Apostle and Evangelist
Whether the Apostle Matthew is also the Evangelist Matthew -- that is, whether the Apostle Matthew wrote the Gospel that bears his name -- is disputed.
The Gospel itself does not say who wrote it, but the designation "according to Matthew" is very old.
It has been suggested that Matthew (the apostle) is the author of this document Q, which may well have been first written in Hebrew (or Aramaic).

They say, "I’m not going to church because you Christians are all hypocrites." They say that the evangelists are the biggest phonies of all (they don’t know that I am one), especially those on radio and television.
I particularly take notice of what is said by those who don’t go to church or who profess not to believe in Jesus Christ.

An evangelist starts from a belief and goes from there." In spreading good news about a better, cheaper, more secure product, evangelists empower decision-makers to step away from the status quo.
Whatever you do, don't blow them off as 'bozos.' Anyone who's not fighting against you is fighting for you." Though you might be the official Project Evangelist, you can't be everywhere at once.
"Evangelists deliver the good news and get people to believe in it and spread it further." So, it stands to reason, to be an effective advocate, the evangelist must first be convinced that his "good news" is helping make the world a better place.
