Evangelicalism - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
On the average, evangelicals tend to be distrustful of reliance upon historical definitions of belief, if they are not qualified as being subordinate to the Bible; and yet, they may be inclined to refer to these documents of faith in defense of their understanding of the Bible.
The word evangelicalism usually refers to a traditional tendency in diverse branches of Protestantism, typified by an emphasis on evangelism, a personal experience of conversion, biblically-oriented faith, and a belief in the relevance of Christian faith to cultural issues.
At the turn of the 20th century, in light of modern scholarship gaining the majority view, Modernist Christianity in the Protestant denominations was producing novel understandings and/or interpretations of the role of the Bible for a Christian, and the Bible's teachings.

Evangelical comes from the Greek evangelion, meaning "good news," and in its most fundamental sense an evangelical Christian is simply someone who wants to spread the "good news" about the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Evangelical churches teach that everyone must make a specific, conscious decision to reject Satan and follow Christ, rather than depend on church membership or infant baptism, as might occur in other denominations.
Holiness-Wesleyan churches follow their Methodist roots in their insistence that the Christian be noticeably distinct from "the world." They often mandate every detail of the believer's clothing, hairstyle, jewelry, church participation, and leisure activities, with special attention paid to observing the Sabbath (refraining from work on Sunday) and practicing temperance (that is, abstaining from alcohol).

Evangelical Christians believe that it is necessary for a person to believe in Jesus Christ in order to be saved.
Here is the liberals' rule: Christians may not judge others by their religious beliefs, but liberals may judge Christians by their religious beliefs.
Third, all those who condemn evangelicals for their belief in the necessity of affirming Christ for salvation are doing exactly what they accuse these Christians of doing -- judging and condemning people solely for their beliefs.
