 Encyclopedia: Eastern Rite
The churches that use these rites are called the Eastern Catholic Churches.
Western (or "Latin-Rite") Catholic bishops are subject directly to the Pope, but most Eastern-rite Catholic bishops are subject indirectly to the pope via one of six Catholic "patriarchs of the east", who sit in Alexandria, Antioch, Antelias, Baghdad, Beirut, and Damascus but who acknowledge the primacy of the Pope.
The faithful who use these rites are technically members of "Eastern Catholic Churches", not rites.

 Eastern Rite Churches, Uniate Churches
Eastern Rite churches are communities of eastern Christians in union with the Roman Catholic church.
Distinct from both the Orthodox churches and the so-called Independent churches of the East, neither of which recognize papal primacy, the Eastern Rite churches are also sometimes known as Eastern Catholic, or Uniate, churches.
Each of the Eastern Rite churches is headed by its own Patriarch, who has jurisdiction over the bishops, clergy, and people of that rite.

Eastern Churches depend originally on the Eastern Empire at Constantinople ; they are those that either find their centre in the patriarchate of that city (since the centralization of the fourth century) or have been formed by schisms which in the first instance concerned Constantinople rather than the Western world.

 Catholicism
Most people, both in and outside the Church, simply use the "Catholic Church" to refer to the Roman Catholic Church, even though there are other churches which consider themselves "Catholic" churches, and other rites within the Catholic Church united to the Papacy besides the Roman.
However, in the Eastern rite married men are admitted as diocesan priests, but not as bishops or monastic priests; and on rare occasions married priests converting from other Christian groups have been permitted to be ordained in the Western rite.
Catholics believe in the Trinity of God as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, the divinity of Jesus, and the salvation through faith in Jesus Christ and through loving God above all things.

David Benjamin Keldani - A bishop converts to Islam?
Catholics normally refer to themselves as "Catholics," not "Roman Catholics." Although the title "Roman Catholic Church" has been used occasionally in the history of the Church, it first came into prominence with the Anglicans in England after they split off from Rome in the 16th century.
The Catholic Church consists of 21 "rites," different cultural groups which have different liturgical languages and calendars, and slightly different customs and practices, but which are all under the Pope, the Bishop of Rome, and profess the same faith.
The Anglicans, who claimed that their church was just as "catholic" as the church centered on the Pope in Rome, used the term to imply that the Pope's Catholic Church was merely the _Roman_ branch of the invisible "Catholic Church".

Atlanta's Eastern Rite Catholics: Unity In Diversity
The Mass was offered in the Roman Catholic cathedral, so it had to be one of "ours." Afterward, I found out that the priest who said the Mass was from the Maronite rite, and that there was a large community of Maronite Catholics in Lafayette.
This diversity within the Epiphany congregation is partly the result of the location of the church in extreme northern Fulton County, where no other Catholic Eastern rite church is located.
His spiritual gift and his conversion of many to Christianity aroused the wrath of heretical elements in the Church.

The Rite Switch: why Roman rite Catholics become Eastern
He notes that in the New World, the Western Church was quick to declare its supremacy, and often Eastern Catholics were proselytized away from the rites of their birth into Roman Catholic churches.
The words "Byzantine" and "Greek" in the past have been used to describe the Eastern Catholic Churches, which consist of seventeen churches with roots in particular countries, all in full communion with the Pope.
This process can't be called "conversion" because each Catholic church - whether Eastern or Western - contains the fullness of the truth as revealed by Christ.

Catholic Culture : Document Library : The Eastern Rite Church (Part I)
While the majority of Roman Catholics belong to the Latin Rite, the Eastern Rites provide a special dimension to our Catholic heritage and spirituality.
The Second Vatican Council's Decree on the Catholic Eastern Churches emphasized, "The Catholic Church values highly the institutions of the Eastern Churches, their liturgical rites, Ecclesiastical traditions and their ordering of Christian life.
As are many Latin Rite Catholics, I am a bit ignorant about the Eastern Rite Church.

True Sola Scriptura leads to perfect unity! Oral traditions and creeds cause division!
This means that if the Roman Catholic church is in 234 countries, it would have a at least 234 denominations listed.
So the Roman Catholic and Orthodox observation that "sola Scriptura churches" differ in doctrine is invalid because they are not really "sola Scriptura" churches since they use creeds, councils and statements of faith in addition to the Bible to determine doctrine.
In addition to this variation within each of the Roman Catholic and Orthodox churches (to which we are willing for the moment to turn a blind eye and count as 1), there are an additional 66 independent schismatic Roman Catholic churches and additional 74 independent schismatic Orthodox churches.

THE DIFFERENT RITES OF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH
The Holy Catholic Church, which is the Mystical Body of Christ, is made up of the faithful who are organically united in the Holy Spirit by the same Faith, the same sacraments and the same government.
A "Rite" of the Church should be understood as marked by more than a distinctive ritual and ceremony used in worship; it also involves a particular spirituality, theology, and canonical discipline.

Eastern Rite celebrants, on the other hand, have *always* sung the words of consecration aloud, after which the congregation sings its own affirming "Amen," expressing their own faith and belief in the Real Presence, and their willing choice to participate in the renewal of Christ's Eucharistic Sacrifice.

Are there any Eastern Rite Catholics on FR? (slight vanity)
The only problem that you might experience if you start attending an Eastern Rite church is that since the churches are based around nationalities you might get some odd looks when they find out that you aren't Ukranian, Ruthenian, Lebanese, etc. Other than that you should have a good experience.
But since "Latin Rite" Catholics are welcome to worship at Eastern Rite Catholics, I think if I had a choice, I would go to Mass, or in this case "Divine Liturgy," at a Byzantine-Ruthenian Catholic Church.
Actually, I'm officially part of a very tiny Byzantine rite Catholic church of the "Russian usage," that now only has a couple of churches in the United States.
