Madhvacharya - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Contrary to the Idealistic schools like Vijnanavada, Madhyamika buddhism or Advaita, Dvaita maintains that difference is in the very nature of a substance.
This is the reason why some refer to the doctrine of Tattvavâda (the preferred name) as 'Dvaita'.
Great leaders of the Vaishnava Bhakti movement, in Karnataka, for example, Purandara Dasa and Kanaka Dasa were part of the Dvaita traditions.

 [No title]
Dvaita, or Maadhva siddhaanta, is the name for the doctrine of Vedanta that asserts the eternal and immutable difference between the individual soul, or jiiva, and the Supreme Lord, or Iishvara (also known as Vishnu).
Such misperception is one of the reasons why some reject the use of 'Dvaita' to refer to the doctrine of Tattvavaada.
Though this practice has been followed earlier by Sri Shankaraachaarya and Sri Ramanujaachaarya also in essence, their criticisms of rival theories were not complete and comprehensive.

These include absolute faith in Sruti, Smriti, Purana and Ithihasa as interpreted by Acharya Madhva and his disciples who preached the Dvaita tenets.

Madhva (1238-1317 CE) [Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy]
The Dvaita or "dualist" school of Hindu Vedanta philosophy originated in 13th-century CE South India with Sri Madhvacarya (Madhva).
The main tenet of Madhva's Dvaita Vedanta is that the Vedic tradition teaches a fundamental difference between the human soul or atman and the ultimate reality, brahman.
Madhva's Dvaita Vedanta is recognized as one of the three major schools of Vedanta (besides Sankara's Advaita and Ramanuja's Visistadvaita Vedanta).

Conceiving the canon in 'Dvaita Vedanta': Tradition and innovation in Madhva's 'Rgbhasya'
Madhva's controversial interpretation, which claimed that the hymns taught the supremacy of the deity Vis&dotbelow;n&dotbelow;u above all other gods as well as His complete distinction from the individual human soul, was a deliberate attack on established Vedic exegetical norms, particularly Śankara's Advaita Vedānta.
This dissertation examines the way in which Madhva (1238-1317), a medieval Hindu philosopher and saint who founded the philosophical system commonly called Dvaita Vedānta, interpreted a body of canonical literature known as the Rgvedic hymns.
By looking at Madhva's Vedic exegesis in historical perspective, my dissertation challenges lingering Orientalist presumptions of a monist essence to the Hindu philosophical tradition and contributes to emerging scholarship that seeks to explore the Veda's dynamic and evolving role as a canon in Brahminical Hinduism.
