The Drukpa is a major sect within the Kagyupa school of Tibetan Buddhism.
The Drukpa school was founded in western Tibet by Tsangpa Gyare (1161-1211) who mastered the Tantric Buddhism practices of the Mahamudra and Six yogas of Naropa at an early age.
A prominent disciple of Tsanga Gyare was Phajo Drugom Shigpo (1208-1276) who went on to convert the valleys of western Bhutan to Drukpa Buddhism in 1222.

The DKHP is a project that was begun for the purpose of collecting, preserving, archiving, and re-publishing the texts of the Drukpa Kagyu tradition of Tibetan Buddhism.
In tandem with the Tibetan Computer Company the project has developed the methodology and software necessary for doing this kind of work and has provided it to nearly all of the major Tibetan Buddhist text preservation projects which are spread throughout India, Nepal, Bhutan, and the rest of the world.
The project office which is situated in Kathmandu, Nepal was opened in January 1993.
