Topic: Doctrine of the Mean

What is the "Doctrine of Christ" in 2 John 9?
The “doctrine of Christ” (Jesus’ sayings, word, faith, gospel) is something to “abide in” (hear and do, continue in).
This means that those in the doctrine must “continue” and maintain that doctrine to have fellowship with God.
While such is included in the “doctrine of Christ” it is not the “whole” of the doctrine of Christ.

speculations and such: the doctrine of inspiration
nor does the doctrine of scripture, according to hodge and warfield (although they would be disputed by some fundamentalists, though i think, to their own detriment), mean that there are not discrepancies with regard to historical dates, issues of science or philosophy, or factual details.
nor does the doctrine of inspiration mean that the authors of the scripture were by any means infallible in other parts of their life.
first, neither of these men would claim that inspiration means that the spirit of god overcame the intellect and emotions of the men who wrote the books of the bible.

That the doctrine of election is a doctrine of the Bible.
The doctrine of election does not mean that the elect will be forced to go to heaven against their will.
However, the doctrine of election means that certain members of the human family are chosen to eternal salvation.

The spiritual meaning of the secret doctrine and how it influences humankind
Hierarchy means “reign of holy beings.” In the universe all things are connected and interdependent, and the whole is supervised by holy beings, these by still holier beings, and so on, known popularly as gods or devas.
This means that the whole universe is pervaded by wisdom and compassion, which is the same as karma.
Hierarchy of Compassion literally means guidance by holy beings who are unselfishly inspired by compassion for those who aspire to unfold their inborn spiritual qualities.

Doctrine of Infallibility Puts Mormons in a Difficult Position
For members of the LDS church to use the word "infallible" to describe their president would implicitly put the LDS church in the same position as the LDS view of the Catholic church, that is, a church in a condition of apostasy.
Most of these are published in the Doctrine and Covenants, one of the books of canonized LDS scripture.
Usually the doctrine of infallibility is applied only to the church president, not to other church leaders.

The heart of this doctrine is the pursuit of holiness, for the true meaning of perseverance is a perseverance in holiness!
This, of course, is the logical conclusion of this false doctrine that rejects the free and sovereign grace of God.
An unscriptural interpretation of this doctrine, that results from a rejection of unconditional election, it that which is behind the heretical teaching of the "Carnal Christian".

 Philosophy 051-01
The virtuous-person criterion is problematic.  Instead: The doctrine of the mean.
Three options: Reject Aristotle’s doctrine of the mean, reject the idea that one should love everyone, or construe love as a mean in a different way: e.g., the good one does for someone should be a mean between rendering them unhealthily overdependent on one and not helping them in their need.
o Aristotle says that truthfulness is the mean between self-deprecation and boasting.  But if you say the earth is “round”, that is surely not between self-deprecation and boasting.

 Is God A Mystery?
The Catholic Church says of the Trinity doctrine: "This, the Church teaches, is the revelation regarding God's nature which Jesus Christ, the Son of God, came upon earth to deliver to the world: and which she proposes to man as the foundation of her whole dogmatic system."
The entire seventeenth chapter of Revelation is given over to describing this false church, and the effects of her false doctrine.
Not one of those who believe the false doctrine of the "trinity" denies this.

 Aristotle's Ethics
The Greek term “ eudaimon ” is composed of two parts: “ eu ” means “well” and “ daimon ” means “divinity” or “spirit.” To be eudaimon is therefore to be living in a way that is well-favored by a god.
It tells the individual that the good of others has, in itself, no valid claim on him, but that he should serve other members of the community only to the extent that he can connect their interests to his own.
In Book I Aristotle says that three kinds of lives are thought to be especially attractive: one is devoted to pleasure, a second to politics, and a third to knowledge and understanding (1095b17-19).

Hegel and the Hermetic Tradition by Glenn Magee
Variations on this doctrine are to be found throughout the Hermetic tradition.
He stated in his lectures more than once that the term “speculative” means the same thing as “mystical.” He believed in an “Earth Spirit” and corresponded with colleagues about the nature of magic.
One must not only know doctrine, but have the real-life experience of the truth of the doctrine.

The essence of the Buddha doctrine was universal love and compassion and spiritualized intellectuality, by which man can build bridges of understanding rather than walls of separation.

Objections to the doctrine of the mean fall into two main camps.
In what follows, I argue that those who disparage the doctrine of the mean as practically and conceptually barren have failed to understand it.

When the mean and harmony are actualized, Heaven and Earth are in their proper positions, and the myriad things are nourished.

Heart of Doctrine: What do you mean Sovereign?
I am persuaded that the doctrine of predestination is one of the 'softest pillows' upon which the Christian can lay his head....
In the most simplest terms sovereignty means God is God.
I wish for us to examine in the simplest terms, so even I can comprehend, as they are expounded upon in the bible, answers to foundations of sound doctrine and look towards the single focus of glorifying God.

Aristotle introduces the doctrine of the mean as a way to elaborate his definition of virtue.
The most important point to recognize is that Aristotle himself complains about the unhelpfulness of the doctrine of the mean as it has been presented.

It's a little like having an erudite clergyman explain the meaning of a phrase in the Bible rather than an archeologist - while both explanations are valid in their own way, the clergyman's explanation will indicate a living belief rather than a dissection.
He did his translations when the Confucian scholarly tradition was still alive in China, and as a result he could consult with scholars within this tradition to determine the meaning of the phrases as they were understood in the traditional context.

 Theosophy & reincarnation
For the doctrine of reincarnation cannot be understood apart from that of karma, the law by which, in things visible and invisible, effects and their causes are inseparably linked.
Information on the subject is hardly to be found - except in those religions where reincarnation is accepted.
Written records provide ample evidence of the antiquity and universality of this doctrine.

and this doctrine does not mean to oversimplify life either into a meaningless mass of sensation, either, for, again, this doctrine admits to the possibility of very much more than mere sensation existing importantly.
i mean to start a study group here in Seattle based upon the Theosophical teachings of my great uncle Harry van Gelder.
this doctrine does not mean, however, that sensation is all that there is that is meaningful, nor all that matters importantly, nor that sensation is all that there is. it does not mean that there is no substratum upon which sensation is that is not sensation per se, for instance.

Marwan Barghouti was NOT jailed by Israel for "leading the Intifida" (whatever that means).
It's time the mainstream press in the rest of Britain woke up and started to look at Kriss Donald's murder, and ask whether this may have been not a racial but a religious crime -- and what this means for community relations.
This is in accordance with the government's doctrine of 'personalised learning', which means that everything that is taught must be 'relevant' to the individual child.

For these reasons, "The Doctrine of the Mean" is one of the most intriguing and philosophically rich texts in the Chinese philosophical corpus.
"The Doctrine of the Mean" links the ethical vision of the "Great Learning" to a metaphysical portrait, with T'ien and man playing reinforcing roles in a way that seems to alternate between Mencian and Hsun Tzu-like views.

The exact mean, according to Aristotle, is determined as the practically wise person would determine it.

With the release of the so called Bush doctrine this week which should really be titled The American Global Primacy Plan, it should now be quite clear to our liberal friends in congress that the Fourth Reich has finally risen.
