Topic: Debunker

The Official Graham Hancock Website: Forum
The trick for the debunker is to take Occam's Razor and use it not as a handy rule of thumb to aid critical thinking, but instead to impose it as a literal and immutable law of the universe which immediately destroys your opponent's arguments.
Why not try 'debunking', which seems to be growing in popularity and requires little except a narrow viewpoint and a handful of faulty arguments.
As such, some might reprimand me for writing this short article, seeing it as a hazard to the serious debunker's faith in themselves - little chance of this however, as the real top-notch debunkers have a force-field of ignorance that is nigh impenetrable.

The Truth About UFOlogy and Debunking
UFOlogical myths, even when revealed to be such by UFOlogists, will not be accepted as being debunked by everyone in the UFOlogical community.
One can quote Peter Brookesmith in regards to Roswell and apply it throughout UFOlogy, "...the more UFOlogists barricade themselves within the stockade of Roswell, the less credible will be their entire position when their little wooden fort is overrun" (Brookesmith 122).
This is not the case and as each "classic" is questioned, and possibly explained, the louder the battle cry of "debunker" is used in order to drown out the voices of reason.

 Skeptics, Debunkers and Believers
The term “debunker” is often taken as a negative word, perhaps best personified by orangutan scientist-theologian Dr. Zaius in “Planet of the Apes.” But there’s nothing wrong with being a debunker as long as the debunker can back up his or her claims.
As researcher Daniel Drasin aptly notes in “Zen and the Art of Debunkery,” “extraordinary” is an essentially emotional word, not any sort of qualitative objective standard.
This is inevitable, as Klass’ self-stated maxim is that all UFO reports can be attributed to prosaic causes.

For many years, as a master debunker of the paranormal, Randi had offered $1,000 and then $10,000 to anyone who could, in a test agreed upon by both Randi and the challenger, prove supernatural powers.
But five years ago, a wealthy Internet entrepreneur and admirer of Randi called and said, in effect, "Ten thousand simply doesn't cut it these days." He promptly dispatched a million dollars to Randi's foundation, which purchased negotiable bonds and placed them in a special account where they await the first successful challenger.
