However, I have never been as directly challenged to reconcile the doctrines described in the text with my own practice as I am with Tractate Shabbos, because here, for the first time, I must deal with practices that are not dependent on the existence of the nonexistent Temple.

In the Shulchan Aruch (Code of Jewish Law) it is written that if a person goes every erev Shabbos (Friday afternoon) to the mikveh (ritual bath), he can go on erev Shabbos Chazon, which is during the "9 days" when bathing is not normally permitted.

Manhattan's Seventh Avenue has not likely often been associated with tefilla, but it had its moment in the Jewish spiritual sun on Sunday afternoon, when over 25,000 Jews turned toward it for Mincha at New York's Madison Square Garden and adjacent hall.

I don't do the daf, mostly because I'm lazy, and I get the heebie-jeebies watching grown men hold hands and dance, but if it works for other people, celebrate it.
