Creationism - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Creationism or creation theology is the belief that humans, life, the Earth, and the universe were created by a supreme being or deity's supernatural intervention.
The term creationism is most often used to describe the belief that creation occurred literally as described in the book of Genesis or the Qur'an, for Jews and Christians, and for Muslims, respectively.
The history of creationism is tied to the history of religions.

Theology generally assumes the truth of at least some religious beliefs and is therefore often distinguished from the philosophy of religion, which does not presume the truth of any religious beliefs.

 Talk: Creationism/Archive 4 - Open Encyclopedia
Creationism, in contrast, is the work of people writing about science, with the aim of illustrating their belief in God's existence.
Surely creationism in Britain is simply creationism--because in Britain, if the local community wants to teach religion to their kids, they simply teach religion to their kids--without the pretense of science or pseudo-science.
Assuming, arguendo, that this is the motive of evolutionists, one could logically impeach the arguments of evolutionists in re creationism (qua creationism in theology) as being red herring arguments and/or fallacious arguments ignoratio elenchi.

Also, Arado, theology does not typically "pretend" to be in possession of absolute truth; theology is often convinced it is in possession of absolute truth...you may disagree with what theologians are convinced about, but they are certainly not "pretending".
Admittedly, there are folks in Theology Departments who 'disavow any specific belief in God,' but at least some seminaries try to practice a little quality control over their education and encourage people like that to seek work in departments of Religious Studies.
I think it would be clearer to say "Theology assumes the truth of at least some religious beliefs and therefore can be distinguished from..." A hundred years ago, your description would be pretty accurate, but there are many professional "theologians" who disavow any specific belief in God...

Part 2, Chapter 3, Systematic Theology, Charles Hodge
The former is known, in theology, as "Creationism," the latter as "Traducianism." The Greek Church from the first took ground in favour of creationism as alone consistent with the true nature of the soul.
A third argument in favour of creationism and against traducianism is derived from the Scriptural doctrine as to the person of Christ.
Creationism became subsequently the almost universally received doctrine of the Latin, as it had always been of the Greek, Church.

 Creationism
But Johnson's Creationism is not all that there is to religion, to Christianity in particular.
Here, Creationism means the taking of the Bible, particularly the early chapters of Genesis, as literally true guides to the history of the universe and to the history of life, including us humans, down here on earth (Numbers 1992).
Generally they are known as ‘theists,’ distinguishing them from ‘deists,’ that is people who believe that there is a designer who might or might not have created the material on which he (or she or it) is working and who does not interfere once the designing act is finishing.

What is Creation Science?--Tisthammerw's Book Review
Such “predictions” are clearly based on religion and not on creationism in its less religious form.
People often misconstrue creationism as the idea of a Supreme Being creating the universe as literally described in the book of Genesis.
I regard this book as one of the three major creationist books (the other two are “The Genesis Flood” and “Scientific Creationism,” which will be referred to as SC for sake of abbreviation).

 A Theological Argument For Evolution
On this basis it is argued that evolution is to be preferred to creationism from the theological standpoint.
Process theology certainly does justice to evolution, but it is not so clear that it can do justice to the Christian theological tradition.

 Creationism
Creationism to Universal Darwinism: Evolution and Religion (2002) by Taner Edis
Forrest argues that intelligent design creationism is an attempt to ground social institutions in evangelical religion, allowing proponents to align with more literalist creationists in "defeating naturalism and its consequences," and to transform science itself in a theistic endeavor designed to promote faith rather than science.
Ho argues that this apologetic way of thinking should be rejected, because it leads to "immense textual difficulties elsewhere" in Genesis, and "it still fails to explain other geological and evolutionary facts, or is even at odds with them."

 Scientific Creationism
Creationism is the doctrine that each species had an independent origin directly from God during the first six days of Creation.
Natural theology is the belief that knowledge of God can be acquired directly from Nature.
In short, we have tried to show that "scientific creationism" is merely what it set out to be, a religious Fundamentalism that is trying to destroy science and have all the students in this country be told from their high schools that the Bible is literally True.

 creationism
There are two spheres of study that Creationism encompasses the realm of Theology and the realm of Science.
I long for the unity of the brethren in the essential doctrines, as well as in the views derived from scripture and doctrine, such as Creationism and Eschatology.
If you believe that God created the universe before dawn on 'day one,' you are still well within the bounds of the historical views of the church fathers and the Hebrew text.

Therefore, according to Upanishadic teaching, it is not false to speak of Hindu Creationism (although it is ultimately meaningless).
The Catholic Church, presently the major instance of the Abrahamic Religions, allows for both a literal and allegorical interpretation of Genesis, so as to allow for the possibility of Creation by means of an evolutionary process over great spans of time, otherwise known as evolutionary creationism.
This is not to say however, that in some more superficial sense the assertion is not true, that God is distinct from the Creation brought forth.

 Traducianism vs. creationism
200) points out that it might be said creationism "ascribes to the beast nobler powers of propagation than to man" since animals reproduce after their kind, but man needs God to reproduce the spiritual portion of himself.
The Genesis account of creation states that the body was taken from the earth, while the spirit came directly from God.

And given the beliefs of many people in this country, creationism has to be considered an alternative to evolution.
It is an unsupported hypothesis based on faith and myth.

Unlike some of the openly evangelical Christian lobbies, they didn't want schools to teach creationism - the theory that God created the universe in seven days - they only wanted to air a theory known as Intelligent Design.
But the way some of them were doing it was new, which is where the mousetraps came in.
It was the same, they said, for cells, and so life must have been designed by some kind of intelligence.

Revealed theology has its foundation in God's revelation to His Prophets, preserved as the various Scriptures.
Natural theology serves to seek God and his knowledge in contemplation of the natural world (Livingstone, 1987).
From a historical context, this book aligns with the old Christian tradition of natural theology where the study of nature and the worship of God is combined, but has an epistemological emphasis.

People For the American Way - New Report Reveals Creationism-Evolution Conflicts in 28 States
The report, entitled Creationism in 2001: A State-by-State Report, reveals a concerted and troubling campaign launched by the Religious Right to deny science teachers the authority to teach their classes the most authoritative scientific information about the origins of life.
Just when you thought it was safe to go back into science class, here come the creationists again.
The report also reveals the means creationists are employing to effect their changes: targeting state and local school boards, stacking textbook committees and curriculum committees, rewriting school libraries’ purchasing and donation acceptance policies, and otherwise attempting to gain control over teachers, administrators and state and local legislators.

Mainstream Christian theology rejects Creationism's basic 'Sunday School' view of God.
Most Christians agree that evolution is how life came to exist, albeit guided by God's divine hand.
However, creation science is a group that tries to employ falsehoods and misleading arguments to debunk the theory of evolution, the backbone of modern biology.
