Christian denomination - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Since Christianity is the largest religion in the world (making approximately one-third of the population), it is necessary to understand the various faith traditions in terms of commonalities and differences between tradition, theology, church government, doctrine, language, and so on.
In addition, Christianity has partly inspired other religions, like early Islam and later Bahá'í, whose adherents do not consider themselves Christians but do consider Jesus to be a prophet and the Messiah (Anointed one) promised in the Old Testament, and, in the case of Bahá'í, the Son of God.
Christian anarchists believe that the original teachings of Jesus were corrupted by Judaism and Roman Statism, and that earthly authority such as government, or indeed the established church, do not and should not have power over them.

The Chalcedon Foundation - Faith for All of Life
Christian denominations are the continuation of the ever-growing covenant community, the church of Jesus Christ, which originated - not in A.D. 33 - but with Abraham in Genesis 12:1-3.
These Christian denominations formed as believers matured in their faith and realized that they could not agree on every point of interpretation of the Bible.
Christians should enjoy flourishing in God's grace in whatever denomination the Lord Jesus (Who is building His church) has been pleased to sovereignly place them.

Also, modern movements such as Fundamentalist Christianity, Pietism, Evangelicalism, Pentecostalism and the Holiness movement sometimes cross denominational lines, or in some cases create new denominations out of two or more continuing groups (as is the case for many United and uniting churches, for example).
Note: These are denominations that follow Calvinist theology.
The Antiochian Catholic Church in America is theologically aligned with these Churches, but is not in full communion with them, primarily because it ordains women and does not impose celibacy on its bishops.

Are Mormonism, Mormon Church, and Mormon Beliefs Christian?
The Bible teaches and orthodox Christians through the ages have believed that Jesus is the unique Son of God; he has always existed as God, and is co-eternal and co-equal with the Father (John 1:1, 14; 10:30; 14:9; Colossians 2:9).
In recent years, several Christian denominations have made studies of Mormon teaching and come to the conclusion that there are irreconcilable differences between LDS doctrine and Christian beliefs based on the Bible.
On the other hand, some new religions such as Mormonism claim to be Christian, but accept as Scripture writings outside of the Bible, teach doctrines that contradict the Bible, and hold to beliefs completely foreign to the teachings of Jesus and His apostles.

 Christian denominations share basic beliefs
All Christians, whether Baptist, Presbyterian, Lutheran or non-denominational, agree on the central beliefs of Christianity as expressed in the Bible.
Another misunderstanding that causes misrepresentation of Christians is the belief that different denominations are different religions.
The purpose of denominations is to establish separate groups whose members agree on all points of doctrine.

What about the Various "Christian" Denominations?
Not all denominations which claim to be "Christian" follow the principle of sola Scriptura.
Of course various denominations have done many wonderful humanitarian works which have no doubt brought many benefits to mankind, but this is not a test of the truthfulness of their respective teachings.
Those denominations which claim to have other ultimate authorities, such as teaching magisteriums, alleged "infallible" interpreters of Scripture, or other alleged sources of divine revelation have departed from the unique authority of Scripture and therefore, from my perspective, lack credibility.

Baptized Christians who do not belong to these churches may receive Catholic Communion only if they are gravely ill, do not have access to a minister of their own church, ask for Catholic Communion on their own initiative, and are "properly disposed" toward Catholic Eucharist.
However, most follow the UCC Book of Worship, which says the Communion Table is "open to all Christians who wish to know the presence of Christ and to share in the community of God's people" (more).

Like the LDS, the UUA is considered by most Christians to be so far outside the mainstream of Christianity as to cast serious doubts as to whether they should be included on a list of Christian Churches.
Granted I am a Christian and a member of one of the few churches that have taken a position, makes me proud to be a Southern Baptist at the moment, but makes me pretty sad that so many Christians have been suckered into believing what the world is feeding them.
I spent some time this evening reading through the websites belonging to some of the largest Christian denominations in the country, both so-called mainline churches, as well as others like the Southern Baptists and Assemblies of God, and of course, the website of the Bishops of the Roman Catholic Church.
