Chinese astrology - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Chinese Astrology (占星術 pinyin: zhàn xīng shù; 星學 pinyin: xīngxúe ; 七政四餘 pinyin: qī zhèng sì yú; and 果老星宗 pinyin: gǔo lǎo xīng zōng) is related to the Chinese calendar, particularly its 12-year cycle of animals (aka Chinese Zodiac), and the fortune-telling aspects according to movement of heavenly bodies across the Chinese constellations in the sky.
The Thai Zodiac does not differ from the Chinese zodiac.
For example, the Vietnamese zodiac is identical to Chinese zodiac except the fourth animal is the cat not the rabbit, while the Japanese zodiac includes the wild boar instead of the pig.

Ornamental pigs from the Chinese animal zodiac (in English)
Chinese (birth) zodiac is composed of 12 animal signs.
She was born under the Chinese zodiac sign named the "Pig", and thus her hobby is collecting various ornamental pigs from this Chinese (birth) zodiac.
Your own zodiac sign you can determine by adding 12, 24, 36, or 48 years to the year of your birth, and comparing the result with years listed above (this is because after each 12 years the zodiac sign is going to repeat itself, but for a next element - as explained below).

According to Chinese legend, the order of the twelve signs was determined by Buddha, upon celebration of the Chinese New Year (which falls on different dates, from mid-January to mid-February.) The Buddha invited all of the animals in the kingdom together for a meeting, but only 12 creatures attended.
According to one legend, during a Chinese New Year celebration, Buddha invited all the animals to his kingdom, but unfortunately, for reasons only known to the animals, a total of 12 turned up.
The mouse was naturally the first, followed by the ox, then the tiger, the rabbit and so on and finally the pig.

It is a good version of how the animal zodiac came to be without any religious theme which makes the public school system happy.
The story is charmingly told in a manner that is convincingly authentic and is a good accompaniment to learning about the Chinese zodiac.
How the other animals cross the finish line and how Cat arrives too late to be included in the zodiac explains not only the character of each of the zodiac signs but cleverly suggests how the enmity between cats and rats began.
