Chinese traditional religion - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Chinese traditional religion is a loosely-connected system of practices and beliefs that has been practiced by large segments of the Han Chinese population of China from the early period of Chinese continuing to the present.
Chinese traditional religion also retain traces of some of its ancestral Neolithic belief systems which participate in Animal worship, as well as the worship of the Sun, Moon, Earth, heavens, and various stars.
Many publications on religion in China do not include statistics on the number of adherents of traditional religion, with most adherents registered under the category of Taoist or Buddhist.

Chinese folk religion - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Folk religions have been practiced alongside Buddhism, Confucianism, and Taoism by Chinese people throughout the world for thousands of years.
Although the Chinese have venerated their ancestors for thousands of years, the worship of tien and everything associated with it is distinct from the veneration of humans such as ancestors or venerable figures such as Confucius who belong to the category of spirits known as kuei.
The worship of secondary gods does not conflict with an individual's chosen religion, but is accepted as a complementary adjunct to Buddhism, Confucianism or Taoism.

Many world religions teach that morality is derived from, for example, the commandments of a particular deity, and, further, that fear of the gods is a major factor in motivating people towards moral behavior.
Thus, charges of atheism, meaning the subversion of religion, were often used similarly to charges of heresy and impiety — as a political tool to eliminate diversity in religion.
Buddhism is often believed to be atheistic, since it opposed the gods and rituals of Vedic religion.

For one, TCM in the West tends to be advocated either by Chinese immigrants or by those that have lost faith in conventional medicine.
Because of this, the foundation principles of Oriental Medicine are not necessarily uniform but their continual evolution began approximately between 2000 B.C. and 4000 B.C. The roots of TCM are considered by most to be Buddhism, Taoism, and Confucianism, however, mostly it is based on Taoism which is both a philosophy and a religion.
(The term TCM is sometimes used specifically within the field of Chinese Medicine to refer to the standardized set of theories and practices introduced in the mid-20th century under the government of Mao, as distinguished from other theories and practices such as Worsley's Five Element Acupuncture or the kyo/jitsu theory of Shizuto Masunaga's Zen shiatsu.
