Rather, the Catechism represents an authoritative exposition of the Church's teaching, as derived from Holy Scripture and Holy Tradition.
The Catechism presents and explains divinely inspired and infallible truths, but it is not itself either divinely inspired nor infallible, any more than I am if I quote from Scripture or from one of the Ecumenical councils.
I have removed the sentence reading: "The Roman Catholic Church looks at the CCC as being equal in authority and value to other scripture, like the Bible" because I believe this overstates the case.

He was the paramount Catholic catechist of the 16th century, and he formulated what later became the standard procedure for catechetical activity: he issued under his studious care a large catechism, also called "a major catechism," which was a rather exhaustive compendium of the teaching of the Catholic Church.
A catechism must present faithfully and organically the teaching of Sacred Scripture, the living Tradition of the Church, and the authentic Magisterium, as well as the spiritual heritage of the Fathers and saints of the Church, in order to allow the Christian mystery to be known and to revive the faith of God's people.

 CATHOLIC ENCYCLOPEDIA: Roman Catechism
The Catechism has not of course the authority of conciliary definitions or other primary symbols of faith; for, although decreed by the Council, it was only published a year after the Fathers had dispersed, and it consequently lacks a formal conciliary approbation.
In the mind of the Church the Catechism, though primarily written for the parish priests, was also intended to give a fixed and stable scheme of instruction to the faithful, especially with regard to the means of grace, so much neglected at the time.
The bishops urged in every way the use of the new Catechism; they enjoined its frequent reading, so that all its contents would be committed to memory; they exhorted the priests to discuss parts of it at their meetings, and insisted upon its being used for instructing the people.
