 Canon of Art
It is well known that representations of the human figure in ancient Egyptian art usually conformed to highly stylized principles in which the proportions between the different parts of the human body were determined by a set of fixed laws constituting a Canon of Art.
I proposed that the Egyptian Canon of Proportions was constructed not on the small cubit of 45 cm, as has been claimed hitherto, but on the royal cubit of 52.4 cm.
Iversen contends that the 'reformed' cubit replaced the small cubit at the beginning of the Saite Period; Canon and Proportions in Egyptian Art (Warminster, 1975), 16.

 The Pyramid and the Body
By applying the artist's canon of proportions, the apex of the gabled roof is found to be equal to the position of the Solar Plexus.
When his height (measured to the hairline) is divided into 18 even segments it is observed that the figure's proportions conform to those determined by the classic canon.
This figure, being of earlier design than Khufu's pyramid and also containing the classic proportions, is then an apt one to use when making a comparison of the human proportions and those of the substructure of Khufu's pyramid.

Polycleitus’ new “canon of proportions” exemplifies this; the Doryphoros, based upon these ideal proportions, was copied vigorously and rigorously.
Gisela Richter notes in his book, The Sculpture and Sculptors of the Greeks, that Polycleitus' new canon of proportions saved the naturalization trend, and goes on to write that it served as the root of Greek idealism.
Once the proportions and relationships of the ideal form were understood, a sculptor drew a grid or a number of points upon the front and back surfaces of a block of marble, and commenced in carving out a pre-calculated amount of stone.

 Canon
A mensuration canon is one in which the "dux" is interpreted simultaneously in different mensurations or proportions, with the result that the temporal relationships between the voices may shift because of the different interpretation of individual note-values.
The technique of canonic imitation, that is, of canon in the present-day sense, was first used in the 13th century.
A number of 14th- and 15th-century motets and Mass compositions open with a section in canonic imitation.

 The Doryphoros
For having taught us in that treatise all the commensurate proportions of the body, Polykleitos made a work to support his account; he made a statue according to the tenets of his writing, and called it, like the treatise, the "Canon".
He also made what artists call the 'Canon' or Model Statue, as they draw their artistic outlines from it as from a sort of standard; and he alone of mankind is deemed by means of one work of art to have created the art itself.
Polykleitos used specific proportions for example the ratio head/body size is 1/7.

So far as we are aware only one book has attempted to reconstruct some aspects of the Canon.
These laws embraced many principles, such as sacred geometry, colour harmony, anatomy and proportional metrology.

The Canon of Human proportions was a square-grid of 18 units applied to a drawn human figure (standing) allowing its reproduction in various sizes, but always anatomically proportionate.
Along with the artistic conventions and canons of proportions, there were colour conventions for artists to observe.
The usual 6 units were kept between the sole of the feet and the knees, but two extra squares were added to the between the knee and the neck, creating shorter lower legs and a longer neck if one of the squares had been added to the neck rather than the torso.

IXY DIGITAL 300a is the first of any IXY DIGITAL or PowerShot compact digital lineup to incorporate Canon's Intelligent Orientation Sensor, which automatically detects the camera's orientation and also ensures optimum Auto-Focus, Auto-Exposure and Auto-White-Balance performance.
IXY DIGITAL 300a inherits the design elements now synonymous with Canon's popular IXY (rhymes with Dixie) DIGITAL series - sleek lines, ultra-compact proportions and consummate style.
Additionally, the IXY DIGITAL 300a use new ultra-high density mounting technology, resulting in a thinner camera body, and the "Camera Direct Print" feature used in combination with the small digital photo printers will provide the user with much enjoyment.

The EOS Kiss Digital incorporates a Canon-developed 6.3-megapixel large-area (22.7 x 15.1 mm effective size in a 3:2 aspect ratio) high-resolution CMOS sensor and Canon's exclusive DIGIC Image Processor, which realizes exceeding image-processing speed and precision to fully utilize the performance potential of the sensor.
In addition to compact proportions, the camera's design contributes to outstanding usability, concentrating such operating controls as the mode dial and electronic dial on the right-hand side for one-handed operation of most shooting functions.
The EOS Kiss Digital is compatible with the PictBridge industry standard for the direct printing of photos from digital cameras.

 Canon of Art
It is well known that representations of the human figure in ancient Egyptian art usually conformed to highly stylized principles in which the proportions between the different parts of the human body were determined by a set of fixed laws constituting a Canon of Art.
Egyptian artists were thereby able to make use of a conventional system of proportion which was found to be aesthetically pleasing, while also rendering their subjects in idealized forms which may or may not have been faithful to the exact proportions of the persons in question.
This lends weight to my contention that the small cubit was in practice a variable measure, being equal in length to the forearm of the measurer and therefore falling within a range, I estimate, of about 42-46 cm for Egyptians of average stature.

 BORROMIN.htm
His first major commission, the church-and-monastery complex of S. Carlo alle Quattro Fontane, proves him an anticlassicist ready to jettison, at his convenience, the Renaissance canon that made the human body the model of all architectural proportions-a canon still respected by Bernini.
After Maderno's death, Bernini hired him as an assistant, and he designed some of the details of the bronze Baldachin at St. Peter's.
Borromini spent some twenty years at St. Peter's, working under his relative, Carlo Maderno (1556-1629), sculpting decorative elements such as coats of arms and putti.
