Buddhist Hybrid Sanskrit - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
While Gautama Buddha was likely familiar with Sanskrit, he preferred to teach in local languages and at one point ruled against translating his teachings into Sanskrit (Sanskrit was a language reserved for the elites of Indian society, and the Buddha most likely wished to preserve the accesibility of his teachings).
Buddhist Hybrid Sanskrit (BHS) is a modern linguistic category applied to a number of languages used in some of the Mahāyāna Buddhist Sutras, such as the Perfection of Wisdom.
Compared to Pali or Sanskrit, comparitively little study has been made of Buddhist Hybrid Sanskrit, in part because of the smaller amount of available writings, and in part because of the view of some scholars that BHS is not distinct encough from Sanskrit to compromise a seperate linguistic category.

 Prakrit - Enpsychlopedia
Some scholars restrict the Prakrits to the languages used by Hindu and Jain writers; others include the Buddhist languages, such as Pali and Buddhist Hybrid Sanskrit, and the inscriptional Prakrits.
Virtually every Sanskrit student in India learns the traditional story that Sanskrit was created and then refined over many generations (traditionally more than a thousand years) until it was considered complete and perfect.
Some scholars include all Middle Indo-Aryan languages ultimately derived from Sanskrit under the rubric of "Prakrits"; others emphasise the independent development of these languages, often separated from the history of Sanskrit by wide divisions of caste, religion, and geography.
