 Book of Revelation, Apocalypse
and the heart of the book is to discover the final total and complete triumph of Jesus Christ in his church, with his church, by his church, and for his church...
Jesus wants us to read Revelation so much that it is the only book in the Bible with a blessing to those who read it, Blessed is he who reads aloud the words of the prophecy, and blessed are those who hear, and who keep what is written therein; for the time is near (1:3)...
Through its warnings and promises the book seeks to bring readers to renewed faith in God and the Lamb, who are the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end (1:8; 22:13).

 The book of revelation
Therefore, the Revelation of Jesus Christ as written in Chapter one verse one is an uncovering or unveiling of who Jesus Christ is. It is not as many feel a book of mysteries and undeterminable phrases, but instead it is a book designed to clarify and reveal.
The book of Revelation is important because it talks about “things which must shortly come to pass.” It is a revealing of prophetic things that God desires us to understand.
The actual authorship of this book is still under speculation, most though believe and agree that it was John, a disciple of Jesus.

frontline: apocalypse!: book of revelation: understanding the book of revelation
The author was probably a Christian from Ephesus known as "John the Elder." According to the Book, this John was on the island of Patmos, not far from the coast of Asia Minor, "because of the word of God and the testimony of Jesus" (Rev. 1.10).
At the center of the Book of Revelation, both literarily and ideologically, stands the "mythic" scene of the woman and the dragon (Rev. 12), which results in the dragon being hurled down to earth where it will persecute "the other children of the woman" (i.e., the church).
The new view, therefore, began to argue that none of the events described in the Book of Revelation after chapters 1-3 (i.e., John's vision and the letters to the seven churches of Asia) had yet come to pass.

The book as prophecy: Because the Book of Revelation is written in John& own name, it is related to OT prophecy, perhaps more closely than it is to apocalyptic.
While there is only one OT apocalyptic book (Daniel) and one NT book that demonstrates some features of this type (Revelation), it was a common form of writing in the two centuries before and after the birth of Christ.
