 Forbidden Fruit Chabad.org > Parsha > Bereishit
He would annihilate evil (for the moment a spark of goodness is redeemed, its negative shell wilts away like a husk emptied of its fruit) not by engaging it and combating it, but by surmounting it and disdaining it.
Evil existed before the first sin, as a requisite part of the divine purpose in creation; for man's mission in life is to separate the gold from the dross, to extract the sparks of holiness imprisoned in the lowly and corporeal elements of creation.
He was to keep the garden, guarding its frontiers and preventing the slightest vestige of evil from seeping in or even coming in contact with his sacred world.

The Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil - Unexplained Mysteries Discussion Forums
The tree, which I believe is a bloodline connotation, was in the garden, therefore the knowledge contained in good and evil was perfect to begin with and we are the tree, every person on this planet has tasted of it enough to learn and move beyond it...
My line of questioning has led me to believe that because the tree was in the heavenly garden in the first place, where the serpent was also by the way, then all the knowledge including the knowledge of evil was inspired by god.

Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In the Hebrew Bible's Book of Genesis, the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil (Hebrew: עֵץ הַדַּעַת טוֹב וָרָע) was the tree in the middle of the Garden of Eden from which God forbade Adam and Eve to eat.
A rather Freudian interpretation is that knowledge of good and evil, or simply good and bad, refers to the recollection of a memory with an implied judgment.
These associations happen, for example, both to the Bodhi tree under which Buddha is said by Buddhists to have become enlightened, and to the Tree of Jiva and Atman in Vedic mythology which is otherwise usually interpreted as a metaphor concerning the soul, mind, and body.

The Evidential Problem of Evil [Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy]
Evidential arguments from evil attempt to show that, once we put aside any evidence there might be in support of the existence of God, it becomes unlikely, if not highly unlikely, that the world was created and is governed by an omnipotent, omniscient, and wholly good being.
The evidential problem of evil is the problem of determining whether and (if so) to what extent the existence of evil (or certain instances, kinds, quantities, or distributions of evil) constitutes evidence against the existence of God, that is to say, a being perfect in power, knowledge and goodness.
Evil is a problem for the theist in that a contradiction is involved in the fact of evil, on the one hand, and the belief in the omnipotence and perfection of God on the other.

Their only restriction is a commandment given to them by God: "Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat, but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it" (Genesis 2:16-17).
And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.
And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.

Access Christian Forums-viewtopic-Tree of the knowledge of good and evil
I think the tree of the knowledge of good and evil represents an awareness/acceptance of worldly knowledge (thus literally a sin but is subtly integrated into ones worldview).
I have heard many people talk about the tree of life but not many who address the tree of the knowledge of good and evil (other then saying it represents sin).
What I have noticed, with those friends and myself, is that I start to eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

 EdensTreeofKnowledgeLife
Because _no_ ancient inscriptions mention specifically "a tree conferring _knowledge of good and evil_" or "conferring _immortal life_", some scholars in the past have chosen to speak of trees flanked by beasts, gods or genies as "sacred trees", deliberately refusing to call these iconographic representations "tree of life or tree of knowledge".
That is to say, it is AFTER having eaten of the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge that they THEN engage in sexual intercourse, which recalls somewhat what happen to Inanna, she eating of a Cedar and Cyrpress tree to acquire sexual knowledge.
NOW, I understand that these two trees are the Hebrews "unique" contribution to Ancient Near Eastern religious belief as they transform and challenge the earlier Mesopotamian myths regarding man's creation which understood man was made to be a servant/slave in the gods' city-gardens lying in edin-the-floodplain of ancient Sumer.

 Immortality and the Original Sin
Genesis 2:9 And out of the ground the LORD God made to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight and good for food, the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
God told Adam and Eve; "you may eat freely of every tree in the garden; but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall die." However, after they ate the forbidden fruit, they did not immediately fall dead.
Because of this seeming discrepancy, many Christian interpret this passage to mean that Adam died spiritually that day, or was originally immortal and became a mortal thereby beginning to die.

Literal and figurative trees of the Bible
More than thirty different kinds of trees are named in the Bible: In addition to the majestic Cedars of Lebanon extolled in the Old Testament as building material for Solomon's Temple, there are also the Olive Tree and Fig Tree emphasized in the New Testament.
The Old Covenant and the New Covenant are two halves of a whole.
The Nebuchadnezzar Tree This King of Babylon is called a tree in the 4th chapter of Daniel; a "tree" that would have an axe taken to it and be cut down to a stump.

Influence of the Phallic Idea: The Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil
Hardwicke, when commenting on this tradition, adds that the sacred Indian fig is endowed by the Brahmans and Buddhists with mysterious significance, as the tree of knowledge or intelligence.
The references made to the serpent, to the tree of wisdom, and to the bull in the legend of the "fall," sufficiently prove its phallic character; which was, indeed, recognized in the early Christian church.
This legend confirms what I have said as to the nature of the Hebrew tree of knowledge, and also the phallic explanation of the "fall" itself, which we consider the attributes of the tempter of the Hindu story.

THE FRUIT OF THE TREE OF THE KNOWLEDGE OF GOOD AND EVIL
The basic tragedy of the human experience is that, having eaten of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, we lack the power to engage in the behavior that produces good consequences and does not produce evil consequences.
I submit to you that moral evil is almost always a consequence of one or more of these six causes and that we can do lots of things about them, and we can do nothing about them until we acknowledge their reality.
In both cases, we are looking back at this story as the source of what you and I have come to call evil.

 Aromanian Vlachs: The Vanishing Tribes
To those who have an intimate knowledge of the history of Metsovo, this might not come as a surprise as John Nandris points out: "Aminciu (Metsovo) was certainly in existence in the 14th century, and was destroyed, twice in one year, 1854 by both Greeks and Turks" [11]..
To claim that the Romanians, (who set up an extensive network of schools and churches on the behalf of their brethren, in the vernacular language as in it literary version) "stirred trouble among Vlachs", is a crude remark in sharp contrast with the accepted human and minority rights standards.
It is no use of pretending that there is not around a long tradition –deeply rooted both among scholars and populist politicians alike- of dishing the dirt in the faces of those who are either voiceless, vulnerable or are perceived as an insignificant entity.
