Balarama - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In either tradition, Balarama is acknowledged as being a manifestation of Adishesha, the divine serpent on whom Vishnu rests.
Kamsa, brother of Devaki and an evil king, was intent upon killing all the progeny of Devaki, because an oracle had predicted that Kamsa would die at the hands of "the eighth son of Devaki".
Most South Indian Hindu sects and some Vaishnava sects based in eastern India regard Balarama as being the ninth avatar of Vishnu.

 Balarama
Once, when Balarama was intoxicated, he called upon the Yamuna river to come to him, that he might bathe; but his command not being heeded, he plunged his ploughshare into the river, and dragged the waters whithersoever he went, until they were obliged to assume a human form and beseech his forgiveness.
According to this view, which is the favorite one of the Vaishnavas, Krishna is a full divinity and Balarama an incarnation; but the story of their birth, as told in the Mahabharata, places them more upon an equality.
When Krishna is regarded as a full manifestation of Vishnu, Balarama is recognized as the seventh Avatara or incarnation in his place.

VNN Editorial - Lord Nityananda Balarama Appearance Day
Krsna is Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu, and Balarama is Nityananda Prabhu.

Balarama. Who is Balarama? What is Balarama? Where is Balarama? Definition of Balarama. Meaning of Balarama.
Balarama and Krishna, brothers, were moved from the womb of their mother to that of Rohini because their uncle Kamsa, an evil king, was attempting to kill them.
In Hinduism, Balarama (or Bala-rama) is a god of fertility, stength and agriculture, as well as the eighth avatar of Vishnu.
Balarama is pale (while his brother, Krishna, is dark-skinned).

VNN Editorial - Tour Vraja With Raghava, Shrinivasa And Narottama (Part 2)
In the Puranas Baladev Dhyana is written as follows: In this place Rohini Nandana, Balarama, stood in a three fold bending form and blew joyfully on his horn, the sound of which moved the heart of Brahma and others.
As Balarama relaxed beneath a tree the guards in heaven sang the glories of Rohini Nandan whose beauty and posture could fasicinate the world.
In Srimad Bhagavatam it is stated that Bhagavan Sri Balarama stayed in Vraja for two months and supplied divine enjoyment to the gopis each night.

The Most Auspicious Appearance Day of Lord Sri Balarama
Krsna and Balarama themselves are the origins of all branches of knowledge, yet they concealed their perfect knowledge by performing their wonderful pastimes with Their human-like forms and activities.
All glories to Lord Balarama, the son of Rohini.
Bringing him from the place of Yamaraja, the 'gurus' son was returned by Krsna, fulfilling the 'guru daksina' as requested.

 Sri Nityananda Rama
Out of ignorance, some people disregard the Puranas and reject Balarama's rasa dance as unauthentic.
On the radiant full moon night of holi, at the end of sivaratri vrata, Lord Krsna and Lord Balarama, accompanied by Their cowherd boy friends, enjoyed Themselves in the midst of the beautiful maidens of Vrndavana.
The sages unequivocally denounce association with women, yet they sung hymns in praise of Balarama's rasa dance with His cowherd damsels.

 Doka Dauji (Balarama Stali)
The black Deity of Balarama in this temple is in a crouching position.
Dauji is a name for Balarama meaning the “older brother.” Doka is a corruption of the word dekha, which means to see.
Because Balarama was attentively looking at Krishna, therefore the Deity is known as Doka Dauji.

 Sri Venkatesa Ashtotthram
Balarama's compassion and mercy are emphasized by Swami Desikan in Daya Satakam, when the Acharya points out that while it is normal for the Lord to disregard misdeeds of the devout, Sri Balarama went to the extent of disregarding those of even the Kauravas.
It was Sri Balarama who, through His anushttaanam, popularised this form of Karma Yoga to the world.
It is well known that Sri Balarama is an amsam of Sri Adisesha, ever protective of His kid brother Krishna, ensuring that the machinations of Kamsa do not in any way affect Sri Krishna.

Indian Heritage - Hindu Gods - Dasavataram - Balarama
When Balarama heard that Vatsala had married Abhimanyu with Lord Krishna's blessings was overjoyed and welcomed them to his palace.
But, as the Pandavas had lost their kingdom to the Gauravas, Balarama and Revathy changed their minds and decided to give Vatsala in marraige to Latchana Kumara, Duryodhana's son.
The mighty Balarama just gave him one knock on his head and killed him.

Balarama, as the god of agriculture, becomes an obvious connection between the two and symbolizes the belief we put into religion and nature for a good crop.
Balarama, the brother of Krishna, is a god of agriculture and is symbolized by the plow and mace.
Agriculture is the focus of the piece because of its importance in both cultures.

Spirit From Stone--The Story of the Krishna-Balarama Deities of Vrndavana
I was in Mayapur, in what is now West Bengal, when I received a letter from His Holiness Gurudasa Swami asking me to go to Jaipur to see how the carving of the twelve Deities for the Krishna-Balarama Temple was coming along.
Enchanted, I felt I could see right through the white and black marble to the finished Deities inside.
Then I took a train up to Vrndavana to be there when Krishna, Balarama, and the other completed Deities arrived.

Of the dozen elephants, Balarama will be the star attraction as he will carry on his back for the fourth year the sacred idol of Goddess Chamundeswari in the 800-kg golden howdah on the auspicious 10th day of Dasara celebrations commencing from October 17.
With only a few days left for the Dasara, the panic forest officials caught him two days later in the forest.
After a day's rest at the Aranya Bhavan, the Mysore headquarters of the Forest Department, the five pachyderms were shifted to the Palace premises, for their daily acclimatization.

 Balarama

 Balarama
Over five thousand years ago today, Lord Balarama appeared in this world in the town of Gokula.
Because he was drawn from Devaki's to Rohini's womb, He became known as Lord Sankarsana and because of His strength, He is known as Lord Balarama.
Just as Lord Krishna appeared only after Lord Balarama, similarly one requires Lord Krishna's mercy only after attaining the mercy of Lord Balarama.
