The scripture says "Aum Iti Ek Akşara Brahman" (Aum that one syllable is Brahman).
With Buddhism's evolution and breaking away from Vedic/Hindu tradition, Aum and other symbology/cosmology/philosophies were co-opted from the Hindu tradition.
Aum (also Om, ॐ) is the most sacred syllable in Hinduism, first coming to light in the Vedic Tradition.

Aum Shinrikyo (also spelled Om Shinri Kyo) was a religious group which mixed Buddhist and Hindu beliefs and was based in Japan.
The Shaktipat tradition that originated in ancient India as part of esoteric yoga tradition and also mentioned in Mahayana Buddhism texts was also continued by Aum.
The name "Aum Shinrikyo" (Japanese: オウム真理教 Oumu Shinrikyō) derives from the Hindu syllable Aum (which represents the universe), followed by the three kanji characters shin ("truth," "reality," "Buddhist sect"), ri ("reason," "justice," "truth"), and kyō ("teaching," "faith," "doctrine").
