Assumption of Mary - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Feast of the Assumption is celebrated on August 15, the same calendar day as the Eastern Orthodox Feast of the Dormition of the Theotokos.
The Dormition should not be confused with the Assumption: Eastern Orthodox believe that Mary died, and there is a non-dogmatic tradition that her dead body was later assumed into heaven as a foretaste of the general resurrection.
The Assumption is important to many Catholics as the Virgin Mary's heavenly birthday (the day that Mary was received into heaven).
