Anointed Quorum - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Beginning in 1842, the Quorum was the center of Mormon spirituality, where members met to participate in the Mormon Prayer Circle regarding spiritual matters of the day; however, it was never an administrative body of the Church.
The Anointed Quorum, also known as the Quorum of the Anointed, or the Holy Order, was an elite body of men and women with special standing in early Mormonism.
Many, but not all, of the members of this Quorum had received the ordinance of the Second Anointing, and nearly all were important leaders in the Church or community.

Succession crisis (Mormonism) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Smith also created the Anointed Quorum, an inner group of strong and trusted Church members (both male and female) who had received the temple endowment, and sometimes the Second Anointing (called the "fullness of the priesthood").
Others who had been given important priesthood authority in the church were the Quorum of Three Witnesses, the Associate President of the Church, Hyrum Smith, and earlier, the Presidency of the Church in Zion, which included David Whitmer and W.W. Phelps.
The Quorum of the Twelve Apostles were originally ordained to be traveling ministers, and had been delegated leadership of outlying areas of the world in which no "stakes" — local congregations — were established.

However, unaware of the female priesthood theology in Joseph's Anointed Quorum, current LDS presidents and apostles regard new revelation as necessary to change a 20th century definition that is now regarded as doctrinal.
Yet another member of Joseph Smith's Anointed Quorom, Joseph Young, also affirmed that LDS women received the Melchizedek priesthood when they were endowed and not through the sealing or second anointing with their husbands.
Men and women were actually "anointed to be kings and queens, priests and priestesses", literally.

Joseph Smith's Quorum of the Anointed: A Documentary History
Preparations to initiate the first members of Joseph Smith’s Quorum of the Anointed, or Holy Order, as it was also known, were made on May 3, 1842.
However, the women effectively disappear after Brigham Young’s assumption of leadership in 1844, following Joseph Smith’s death, and remain virtually absent until the Nauvoo Temple is completed nearly a year and a half later.
Readers will also note some of the differences in protocol between what Smith instigated and what Young eventually settled on, for instance that members could be washed and anointed repeatedly but were “endowed” only once.

The Holy Order in Nauvoo by Lisle G. Brown
That quorum, to which both the President of the Church and the Twelve were "amenable" in the administration of temple ordinances, could only have been the Holy Order.
In the Spring of 1836 Joseph Smith introduced the Church's first temple ordinances (washings, anointings, washing of the feet, and the solemn assembly) in the Kirtland Temple.
Orson Hyde wrote that Rigdon tried "to palm upon [the Church] a false revelation, which was 'that God had shown him that a guardian must be appointed to build up the kingdom to Joseph Smith.'"/60 In presenting this revelation to the Church, Rigdon ignored a procedure established by Joseph Smith before his death.

 Feminist Mormon Housewives » Women’s Priest(ess)hood
The conferral of priesthood on individual women ocurred through the Temple Endowments and other advanced Temple rituals; and the exercise thereof, through what Joseph Smith called the Holy Order or “Anointed Quorum” (men and women who had received the priesthood endowment and were members of the elite Quorum).
The popular idea that women receive priesthood only through their husbands was not the view expressed by the Anointed Quorum’s original members, who learned about the endowment directly from Juseph Smith.
She said she never realized more benefit through any administration, [and] that she was healed and thought the sisters had more faith than the brethren” (Relief Society Minutes, 19 April 1842, Church Archives).

The Remarkable Events of January 21st, 1836
I found the Twelve Apostles assembled with this quorum, and I proceeded, with the quorum of the Presidency, to instruct them, and also the seven presidents of the Seventy Elders, to call upon God with up-lifted hands, to seal the blessings which had been promised to them by the holy anointing.
After these things were over, and a glorious vision, which I saw, had passed, I instructed the seven presidents to proceed and anoint the Seventy, and returned to the room of the High Priests and Elders, and attended to the sealing of what they had done, with up-lifted hands.
President Zebedee Coltrin, one of the seven presidents of the Seventy, saw the Savior extended before him, as upon the cross, and a little after, crowned with glory upon his head above the brightness of the sun.

 Heavenly Mother - Wikpedia
In addition, members of the Anointed Quorum, a highly select spiritual organization in the early Church that was privy to Smith's teachings, also acknowledged the existence of a Heavenly Mother.
Although there is no clear record of Joseph Smith teaching the Heavenly Mother doctrine publicly, several of Smith's contemporaries attributed the doctrine to him either directly, or as a consequence of his new theological doctrine.
Some early Mormons considered Eliza Snow to be a "prophetess", and Latter-day Saint President Wilford Woodruff (a member of the Anointed Quorum, believed that Snow had obtained this understanding though her own revelation.
