 The Humanist: About Us
The American Humanist Association, is a membership organization established in 1941 as successor to the Humanist Press Association, which was established in 1935, which was itself successor to the Humanist Fellowship organized at the University of Chicago in 1927.
Edwords continues to promote positive humanistic change in his position as editor of the Humanist magazine, a post he has held since 1994, and as editorial director of the American Humanist Association, his title since 2002.
Formerly, Edwords served on the boards of the National Center for Science Education, the North American Committee for Humanism, and the Humanist Association of San Diego.

 Theism, Atheism, and Rationality
He was president of the Western Division of the American Philosophical Association during 1981-82 and president of the Society of Christian Philosophers, which he helped to found, from 1983 to 1986.
Another sort of objector claims, not that theism is incoherent or false or probably false (after all, there is precious little by way of cogent argument for that conclusion) but that it is in some way unreasonable or irrational to believe in God, even if that belief should happen to be true.
Widely acclaimed for his work on the metaphysics of modality, the ontological argument, the problem of evil, and the epistemology of religious belief, he is the author or editor of seven books, including God and Other Minds, The Nature of Necessity, and Faith and Rationality.

Well the National Association of Evangelicals finally proved itself to be what astute people knew it always was: a hodgepodge of theological lightweights (with a few heavyweights), philosophical cripples, and devotees of political correctness.
In 1941, Evangelical leaders refused to associate with the conservative American Council of Christian Churches but formed the NAE in 1942.
Maybe it is time for all church leaders who profess to believe the Bible to "come out from among them" and become unaffiliated as were the New Testament churches.

In 1899, Dewey was elected president of the American Psychological Association, and in 1905 he became president of the American Philosophical Association.
Dewey and his colleagues formed a strong pragmatic center at the University of Chicago, and when Dewey moved to Columbia University, he created a strong pragmatic center there.
Experience and Nature (1925) is his most important attempt to set forth a metaphysical analysis and description of reflective experience, with its roots in natural events and its flowering in communication, knowledge, value, and art.
