National Catholic Reporter: Scripture in multimedia.(American Bible Society... @ HighBeam Research
The Catholic Church opposed the American Bible Society and other Bible societies when they were founded in the 19th century, but in the 1990s Catholics make up at least 50% of the society's staff.
Some of the society's Bibles have official Catholic approval, and Catholic staff members are involved in efforts to present the Bible in non-print media.
The society's collection of Bibles is the largest in the Western Hemisphere (second-largest in the world after the British Foreign Bible Society's collection at Cambridge University), according to society librarian Liana Lupas.

Bible Society - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Societa di San Geronimo was a Catholic Bible society which distributed Catholic translations of the Gospels in Italian.
Catholics believe that the Bible cannot be reliably interpreted without the aid of tradition and Church teaching, and that evangelism requires more personal contact than simply giving away the text of the Bible.
Since the development of ecumenical translations, there has been an increase in cooperation between Catholics and Protestants with respect to Bible societies; some Bible societies include approved Catholic translations (with the entire Catholic canon) among the versions of the Bible they distribute.

The Bible in Today's English Version is a new translation which seeks to state clearly and accurately the meaning of the original texts in words and forms that are widely accepted by all people who use English as a means of communication.
To invest the Bible with the qualities of inerrancy and infallibility is to idolatrize it, to transform it into a false God...
The New Testament of the Good News Bible was translated by Dr. Robert G. Bratcher in consultation with a committee appointed by the American Bible Society.

 Robbins - American Bible Society
Because the Bible is the core of the ABS mission and because American Bible Society has the worldís second-largest collection of Bibles, it was natural that the first mission-based theme be Bibles.
American Bible Society (ABS) is almost 200 years old and is dedicated to printing, translating and distributing Bibles to everyone in the world, following Christís dictates in the Bible.
The most important strategic elements of the calendar were (1) creating a common thread that unified all the diverse Bibles weíd chosen to display, and (2) finding a way to inject strong emotion and a powerful human element into a presentation of books.

Religious Groups, Benevolent Organizations, and American Pluralism
This paper is a brief look at the American Bible Society, the most significant of these organizations, and of some moments where benevolent organizations interacted with the Methodist, the Presbyterian and the Baptist churches in the United States.
While controversies over foreign missions split the American Bible Society, the most significant denominational consequence of the domestic missionary movement was the schism in the Presbyterian church.
This schism challenged the notion of the impartiality of the American Bible Society and, implicitly, of the possibility of agreement among Christians without regard to the details of doctrinal belief.

American Bible Society no longer the pope's "Pest"
Nida had dreamed of Bibles that would be acceptable to both Catholics and Protestants, so he organized a conference in Switzerland in the late 1960s, inviting the Vatican's Congregation for Propagation of the Faith.
When a Bible is produced that everyone can love, even though they are worlds apart in their theology, it can no longer be used effectively to help people trim sin out of their lives.
It is not difficult to understand why the King James Bible, hated by the popes for centuries, is slowly being replaced by anything else in the Bible Society's catalog.

Life and Deatherage: Losing the American Bible Society
The Bible Society scholars affirm that The Passion of the Christ is historically accurate in showing that, ultimately, the Roman authorities bore responsibility for putting Jesus to death, which is an important point in light of the charge of anti-Semitism.
The work he began became the Contemporary English Version of the Bible, published as a New Testament in 1991, a full Bible in 1995, and with the Apocryphal/Deuterocanonical books (for a full Catholic Bible) in 1999.
Now, just about everyone who reads the Bible understands that it was not written in English (in fact, William Tyndale was burned at the stake by the church for daring to translate the Bible into English so everyone could read it).
