He said 2,700 yatries would be allowed daily via traditional 45-km-long Pahalgam route, while as 800 yatries would go through Baltal route, the shortest way to the 3800 metre high cave, from the date of the commencement of the yatra.

In a shocking development, militants attacked the Pahalgam base camp for pilgrims bound for the Amarnath cave shrine in Jammu and Kashmir, killing 21 persons and injuring 30.
According to initial reports, majority of the victims were pilgrims bound for Amarnath.
Police sources said that security forces posted around the camp retaliated to the heavy firing.
