All Saints - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The chosen day, May 13, was a pagan observation of great antiquity, the culmination of three days of the Feast of the Lemures, in which were propitiated the malevolent and restless spirits of all the dead.
All Saints is also a Christian formula invoking all the faithful saints and martyrs, known or unknown.
This custom is also referred to in the 74th homily of John Chrysostom (407) and is maintained to the present day in the Eastern Orthodox Church.

All Saints Day: All About All Saints Day
The Feast of All Saints is a holy day of the Church honoring all saints, known and unknown.
The day after All Saints day is called All Soul's Day, a day to remember and offer prayers up on behalf of all of the faithful departed.
All Saints Day is simply a day to celebrate the lives of all the great heroes of the Christian faith, and to celebrate the deep communion we have with them as they intercede for us.

 ALL SAINTS DAY
All Saints Day has always been observed not only as an opportunity for the Church to project to her living membership Christian ideals to be emulated, but also as an opportunity to establish a unity between the Triumphant Church of Christ in heaven and His militant one on earth.
The present day of celebration of the feast of All Saints goes back at least to St. John Chrysostom, who in one of his homilies in Constantinople says that the commemoration of the Martyrs of the Universal Church was observed on the first Sunday after Pentecost.
And though the day of commemoration varied among the various local Churches, the faithful of the Christian Church at large felt the need not only to commemorate the life and martyrdom of those athletes of the new faith, but also to establish a communion with them.

Both the Feast of All Saints and the Feast of All Souls evolved in the life of the Church independently of paganism and Halloween.
In the early days of the Church, the names of the faithful departed were posted in Church so that the community would remember them in prayer.
herefore, All Souls Day as well as all Saints Day are rooted in Christian belief and arose in the life of the Church through a healthy spirituality.

All Saints' Day is a very special festival, one that enriches the worship lives of all who observe it.

Origin of All Saint's Day as a feast of the Church
This feast that we know as All Saint's Day originated as a feast of All Martyrs, sometime in the 4th century.

These are saints of God who in humility of Spirit but freedom of conscience refused to follow the culture or church when their institutions oppressed people and opposed God's own beloved children.
Today is All Saints Day in the church.
But saints are also the nameless and unremembered people whose stories are not so renowned, who have gone through life without calling attention to themselves but building and planting and giving life to those who encounter them.

Recognizing saints, who were by definition deceased, covered a lot of the same ground, but the converts were still fascinated by the idea of their familiar dead returning to the world of the living.
Officially, the Church chose this new date to mark the papal dedication of a church honoring the saints.
In any case, when All Saints' Day moved to November 1, the church did begin to incorporate Samhain traditions into the holy day's activities.

The feast day commemorates and celebrates all the saints and martyrs who have no official feast day on the calendar, and who may only be known as saints to God and the angels.
In the early days of the church, the first Sunday after Pentecost was celebrated as the Commemoration of All Holy Martyrs, a celebration that would have seemed both necessary and immediately relevant, given the circumstances of the early Church.

ORIGINS OF HALLOWEEN, ALL SAINTS' DAY, ALL SOULS' DAY
In its strictly religious aspect, it is known as the vigil of Hallowmas or All Saints' Day, observed on November 1 by the Roman Catholic and Anglican churches.
The festival of Halloween is based on a combination of the Christian commemoration of the departed faithful (All Saints' Day) with the pre-Christian Celtic feast associated with a celebration of the end of summer and the Celtic New Year.
It falls on the eve of May 1, the feast day of St. Walpurga.

Mormons and Mormon Beliefs: An Introduction to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the Mormons)
The Christ we worship is the living Christ, the Son of God, foretold in the Old Testament, revealed in the New Testament, and affirmed in The Book of Mormon: Another Testament of Jesus Christ.
The slander, violence, and bigotry that confronted the saints of the early church of Christ 2000 years ago is much the same as that faced by Latter-day Saints in the restored Church of Jesus Christ.
The term "saints" is translated from a Greek term meaning "holy" and reflects the call in Christianity for people to follow Christ (though we are obviously imperfect and quite hopeless without the grace of Christ!).

 All Saints Day
If you truly believe that praying to the saints is a practice to which we engage and believe that saints go to heaven directly after death, even though in truth there are some verses such as 1 corinthians 15:52 and 1 Corinthians 3:12, and the book of Revelation.
It is not taught by the church to pray "to" saints but has been practiced in the past and this has been misunderstood by Protestants as if it is some kind of Catholic doctrine, it is not.
But all I feel confident to say about the after life knowing that I am 100% correct is that he that confesseth with his mouth the Lord Jesus and Believeth in his heart that God hath raised him from the dead shall be saved.

 All Saints Day
Some are surprised to hear that the day after Halloween has a name: "The feast of All Hallows (Saints)." Maybe they find this feast an anachronism, or perhaps some still think it distracts from our proper worship of God.
This concept is very deep in Christian tradition and we profess it in the ninth item of our Apostles' Creed which outlines the beautiful doctrine of "the communion of saints." Members of the church triumphant, from their vantage point close to God, help us who are still struggling.

We can also ask the great saints, who are already in the presence of God, to intercede for us.
We Catholics believe in the communion of all faithful Christians, those of us who continue our pilgrimage on earth, those who are still being purified in Purgatory, and those that who already enjoy the happiness of heaven.
The difference is that they lived life fully, and today they contemplate the glory of God, because they knew how to live their lives with dignity.
