Seventh-day Adventist Church - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Adventist Church polity (governance), is a mixture of hierarchical (or episcopal) and presbyterian elements.
The Seventh-day Adventist Church is an evangelical Christian denomination that grew out of the prophetic Millerite movement in the United States during the middle part of the 19th century.
Critics of Adventist doctrine argue that the Adventist church, in accepting Ellen G. White as a prophet and her writings as inspired, is putting forward another source of authority in addition to the Bible.

 Adventist
In just a century and a half the Seventh-day Adventist Church has grown from a handful of individuals, who carefully studied the Bible in their search for truth, to a world-wide community of over eight million members and millions of others who regard the Adventist Church their spiritual home.
Early Adventists came to believe -- as have Adventists ever since -- that she enjoyed God's special guidance as she wrote her counsels to the growing body of believers.
Although the name "Seventh-day Adventist" was chosen in 1860, the denomination was not officially organized until Ma y 21, 1863, when the movement included some 125 churches and 3,500 members.

The Adventist Church gets over a thousand requests a year for help from members who have been fired or mistreated because their employers have refused to take the simple steps necessary to accommodate our fidelity to God's law.

 Adventist Review: News
A new Adventist church in Dahasa, Upper Egypt, was dedicated on Sabbath, October 16, by Kjell Aune, president of the Adventist Church in Egypt, replacing the former church, which collapsed about three years ago while a mosque was being built next to it.
In a declaration issued November 9, the participants spoke of the increasing violations of religious freedom around the world, the rise of religious extremism, especially in its violent expression, the restriction of religious belief and practice, and the problem of the use of the death penalty for changing one's religion.
Adventists have the only Christian church in Dahasa, with a history that goes back about 50 years.

Origin of the SDA Reform Movement
These faithful believers were disfellowshipped from the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Europe because they chose to uphold the church's original position in regard to keeping the Law of God (all Ten Commandments).
It is the purpose of the Reform Movement to continue with the original teachings and practices of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
From the beginning, the Seventh-day Adventist denomination announced its stand as follows: "We, the undersigned, hereby associate ourselves together as a church, taking the name of Seventh-day Adventists, covenanting to keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus."

Seventh-day Adventism - Apologetics research resources on religious cults and sects
In 1982, the Adventist Church became indignant as Mark began to teach God's grace and he was forced to resign and was ostracized from the church.
And, said Don C. Schneider, a 57-year-old Adventist leader from Berrien Springs, Mich., who was just elected to head the church's North American Division, while some outside the group may question the resolution's meaning, Adventist church leaders line up behind the Bible as their source of doctrine.
Some state that while SDA includes a number of doctrines that are outside the mainstraim of historic Christian theology, Seventh-day Adventists do accept the essential doctrines of the Christian faith and should thus be considered Christians.

 Adventist Perspective
Adventists have had a prophet in their midst.
In 1988 The Adventist Theological Society was initiated by the Religion Department of Southern College.
Since the majority of laypersons have a strong conservative leaning, administrators can readily support the Adventist Theological Society since it claims to be strongly "supportive" of the Bible, the spirit of prophecy, and traditional Adventist beliefs, even though the society is exclusive and divisive and, in fact, is not truly traditional.

Day of Atonement of the Karaite Jews in 1844
The Seventh Day Adventist tradition seems to have heard of this Karaite practice or perhaps they assumed it was the Karaite practice based on their (correct) assumption that the Karaites strictly follow the Bible.
Thus the entire Seventh-day Adventist teaching regarding the 2300 days of Daniel 8:14, the Investigative Judgment, the Great Disappointment, and Jesus' entrance into the Most Holy Place, hinges only on the words of their prophet Ellen White and on their claim Karaites celebrated the Day of Atonement on October 22 in 1844.
And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

North American Division - Adventist Church News - November 1, 2000
When asked why the Adventist Church has a responsibility to AIDS sufferers, Elder says it is a matter of Christian integrity.
An AIDS study committee, recently established by the Seventh-day Adventist Church's General Conference, has been charged with tracking the impact of HIV/AIDS on society and the church, and recommending new, more effective ways for the Adventist Church to respond to the worldwide epidemic.
Elder cites a case in Africa where an individual who had previously led a high-risk lifestyle embraced Christianity and joined the Adventist Church.

 Open and Shut Door
But the small group that formed the nucleus of the future Seventh-day Adventist Church opposed alike the vagaries of those who declared that Christ had come spiritually and the position of the majority who "denied their past experience" in the 1844 movement.
But it left them with the dilemma of either accepting the no-mercy doctrine or correcting their view of the "shut door" from the initial Millerite definition of it.
Ellen G. Harmon (later White) was accused of claiming divine revelation for the no-mercy doctrine.

 Seventh-day Adventists, What Seventh-day Adventists Believe, About Seventh-day Adventists -- Beliefnet.com
Most Seventh-day Adventists hold that, although the universe and our planet are ancient, God created the ordered world and all life forms in less than seven, literally twenty-four hour, days, less than 10,000 years ago--thereby refuting most claims of modern science.
At any time now, Jesus Christ will return to raise to heaven all the righteous dead and living, resurrect and destroy the wicked and Satan here on earth, and then return the righteous to a paradisiacal earth for eternity with God.
